Movie About German Thrash Metal In Cinemas This June
The documentary Total Thrash - The Teutonic Story shows in three chapters the development of the musical and culturally extremely influential genre "Thrash Metal" in Germany. The film focuses on the nucleus of the genre - the Ruhr area. In the early 1980s, many young people wanted to "break out" of the prevailing social structures and find their own way of life. The world at that time was often dreary and characterized by many social problems. The complete list of bands featured in the film.
The young people's flight ended in music. This should always be harder and more extreme. They wanted to stand out and be heard. The first steps were rather difficult without money and musical ability - the cohesion and the associated creativity of the scene are unique. A multifaceted subculture emerged with the center of Ruhrpott, clubs and concert halls were filled and soon "thrash metal" was on everyone's lips. A real race with the USA scene began, which was being founded at the same time. Other bands sprang up all over Germany and the former GDR also experienced a true thrash metal culture.
While musical and cultural influences peaked in the late 80's/early 90's, the scene went into sharp decline in the mid 90's. Thrash metal became commercial and the scene literally collapsed, bands broke up and the cultural landscape changed significantly across Germany. Since the turn of the millennium, the genre has experienced a renaissance that continues to this day with numerous new bands, clubs, promoters and many subsequent generations who want to revive the 80s. Bands like Kreator, Sodom and Destruction have now achieved international renown.
Total Thrash is intended to give a broad cultural, social and societal insight into 40 years of music history. The film sheds light on the development of the scene genre "Thrash Metal" especially in Germany and makes jumps between bands, organizers and fans. It gives outsiders an exclusive insight into a special and extraordinary fan culture that originated in the Ruhr area and still connects people from all over the country and on an international level."
The movie will come out on the 9th of June in Germany and will feature personages such as: Jürgen “Ventor” Reil (Kreator), Thomas “Onkel Tom” Such (Sodom), Andreas “Gerre” Geremia (Tankard), Schmier (Destruction), Rene Schütz & Frank Thoms (Accu§er), Andreas Lakaw & Arnd Klink (Darkness), Mem Von Stein (Exumer), Markus Hahn (Deathrow), Stefan Hüskens (Desaster), Sabina Classen (Holy Moses), Bernemann (Sodom/Bonded), Ingo & Jürgen (Assassin), Till Burgwächter (writer for 'Metal Hammer'), Lenny Bruce (Dust Bolt), Hansi Müller (Protector), Frank “Blackfire” Gosdzik (Sodom/Kreator), Mario Vogel & Klaus „Heiner“ Ullrich (Vendetta (GER)) and many more.
