Within Temptation - New Album In 2018, Singer Announces Solo Project

After recently promising an announcement from singer Sharon den Adel, Within Temptation left their fans on the edge of their seat about what it could be. Now, it has been revealed that Sharon den Adel just launched a solo project called My Indigo. She also posted a video talking about her solo project and the new Within Temptation album, currently in the works.

You can get the first My Indigo single over here or hear it on YouTube.

The frontwoman released this statement: "Hi there! I know you all have been waiting for the announcement we were going to make, and here it is. For many years we've been touring and everytime we came home I used to start writing songs almost immediately and was happy to do so. After the last tour I tried to do the same but it wasn't the same. Eventually I found myself in a crisis which was bigger than just not being able to write songs. The years of touring and working under a certain pressure took its toll and besides that there were things in my personal life I had to deal with.

"I really took time off, but when I started writing again it was something totally different than WT, but this was what I needed and I embraced it. One song led to another and it turned into a whole album. I gave it a name and it's called 'My Indigo'. My Indigo is about my journey these last few years and I would like to share it with you. Besides all of this I'm happy to tell you that my journey has led me back to Within Temptation. There will be a new album and a tour but more about that in the near future.

"Today my first single will be released and this song is the core of my album and has the same name: My Indigo. My Indigo is not at all like Within Temptation and it wasn't meant to be that at all. I wrote it first of all for myself, but nevertheless I hope you'll enjoy it as well! Thanks & take care!"

I certainly don't like it. I respect Sharon for having written most of WT material for all these years by herself, but this is pretty bad. I don't understand why a vocalist as gifted as Sharon has gone the road of most mainstream producers and just said: "Fuck the chorus, I'll just include some noises instead of an actual catchy melody."

I hear ya. This reminds me of a video I saw on Youtube that states that producers worldwide in 2017 decided to say "Fuck it" and put out the most annoying sounds as possible in the song's hook. Dreadful, I agree, but I guess that's more profitable at the end of the day...

Maybe that is an indication why WT's music sucked hard for the last 2 albums.

Sharon den Adel has such a lovely and distinct voice, but that song is very average modern pop. It sounds like she is trying to get radio play with the glitch pop chorus and airy instrumentation that many radio friendly songs utilize now.

Too bad, but I'll still give her album and Within Temptation's a listen as they are my favorite symphonic metal band.

There's a lyric video on youtube as well.

I can't say I care for it much, but Sharon's voice carries it.

It's a good thing. Maybe now, when Sharon has a platform for her pop side, WT could return to more metal sound.

The song sounds like something from eurovision, total snooze fest though Sharon's vocals are as good as ever.

Thanks! Added.

It's true though, her voice saves the song but it doesn't do much for me

Wonder if she can dump all her pop/rock ideas into this project and get back to metal with WT. Hydra was just a bit too ballad-tastic.

WT were always the light beer of female-fronted melodic metal, never really a good band at all.

I beg to differ. The first 3 albums weren't bad and even the 4th had its moments. But the last 2 are mediocre, abysmal even (the last one). They used to be catchy and dramatic, but in a good way. Now they are catchy in a negative way, almost like humanity suffering from cholera.

Agree to disagree then. I do however think that even though they aren't exactly my taste, they indeed had integrity during the first few albums. There was a noticeable, almost cynical drop in quality with The Heart Of Everything (if I remember correctly). In other words: they sold out.

I for one think that the band itself was built on the principle of selling out. It's just that not all bands that sell-out suck, or at least not for a time. There are more faces for sell-outs than one could think.

What a boring song, she is just metal singer not metalhead. Many female singers solo projects, side projects what so ever are pop orientated, and many men as well. Well you must be metalhead in your heart as Doro even she has pop songs, but pop rock
