Damn mate, why is Somewhere In Time so low? Really not a fan of that one huh? To me it beats any album you ranked from 7 to 14. Also, people don't give enough love to No Prayer this album slays.

Other than that, I agree with most of your top 5 although I would swap their first with Killers and reorganize that top 5 differently. Killers is among my favourites by Maiden, right after Powerslave and Piece Of Mind. Ya know what? Here's my ranking lol.

1. Piece Of Mind
2. Powerslave
3. Killers
4. Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
5. Number Of The Beast
6. Iron Maiden
7. Somewhere In Time
8. No Prayer For The Dying
9. Brave New World
10. Fear Of The Dark
11. Dance Of Death
12. The X Factor
13. A Matter Of Life And Death
14. Virtual XI
15. The Final Frontier
16. The Book Of Souls
17. Senjutsu

Piece of Mind is a great album, with one weak song - Quest for Fire.
No Prayer... does not slay, but it's a decent album.

It's number 4 on my Iron Maiden ranking.

For me it ranks 7, I even slightly prefer Fear Of The Dark to it.

As for the original ranking of this list, dont you think that rating Somewhere In Time a 3 is a bit harsh? Also, a 2 for Book Of Souls and Senjutsu...

I did not even see the ratings

My lowest ratings for IM are 3 for Virtual XI and 5 for Dance of Death.

Somewhere in Time is my number 1 these days.

These are my least favourite as well, they are still a 6 in my books. Maiden can just not do really wrong.

Good ranking, except self-titled and FOTD to be hanging lower than expected. Self-titled can replace "Piece of Mind" while FOTD jumps to #5 pushing Piece much lower.

I absolutely adore Piece Of Mind, I wouldn't even think to move it even just a little. This fucking album is nearly flawless. So lets agree to disagree.

Also your comment on liking FOTD a little more should be the thing that leaves your mouth open. That fucking album is so bloated, it ain't bad but it essentially has 4-5 tracks that I absolutely do not care for. It surprises me honestly that you would like it more.

FOTD is just a personal favourite of mine, it has been my first Maiden album at the time of its release, I have a lot of memories connected to it. It definitely has 4-5 tracks that I do not care about much either, it is just too long.
Now, with POM, I love half of the songs but do not care much about the other half (basically that is Where Eagles Dare, Still Life, Quest For Fire, and Sun And Steel). These songs are not bad, but not too outstanding either.

Great list!
Yeah, I really don't dig Somewhere in Time. I think the production is terrible, and the direction is overall really weird for Maiden. The songs don't sound nearly as smooth, creative and refined as on the other 80s albums. Not much energy. I also think some of the lyrics are among the worst they have written, Deja Vu and Alexander the Great in particular make me cringe. All the albums above it on my list at least have a song or two that I genuinely love, Somewhere in Time does not have any song I would put on my playlist.

No Prayer tends to get a bit overhated from time to time, on a good day, I might rate it 11th, but it still feels a little half-cooked and inconsistent for my taste and 11-13th all have greater highlights. 3-6th are all very close for me, so I get your love for Killers, the title track and Wrathchild are both among my favourite Maiden songs.

I know SiT is really beloved, which is very perplexing to me, they never sounded as synthetic as they did on that album. What is the appeal?
Book of Souls and Senjutsu are exceptionally tedious if you ask me.

Great to see some love for the self-titled! FOTD is an interesting one, as it certainly has some bangers! The title track and Be Quick or be Dead are easily top 20 Maiden songs, likely top 10. There are some other great ones too, and the production is really strong. But tracks like The Apparition, Chains of Misery and Weekend Warrior drag the experience down, the latter two used to be my least favourite Iron Maiden songs, until Books of Souls and Senjutsu came out.

*Piece of Mind is a great album, with one weak song - Sun and Steel. Quest for Fire is also nothing special. That's the problem with every Maiden album. Some classics and bangers accompanied with expendable tracks. That's why no album from them diserves 10.

You are not wrong.
I rarely rate albums 10. If anyone see ratings of 9 from me, it means I was very impressed with what I listened to.

I did a Maiden ranking too, feel free to check that out and express your opinion (sorry I bump a list of mine here).

Unfortunately it was torn between Virtual XI and The X Factor for last place, even though I don't believe either are necessarily bad records. I'd probably rate those in my bottom 4 with no less than a 6 the rest ranging from 7 to 10, Powerslave being the only 10.

Damn, it actually feels kinda crazy to me that anyone would enjoy Virtual XI, A Matter Of Life And Death, Dance Of Death and The Final Frontier more than Fear Of The Dark or Somewhere In Time. Almost feels like we live in a parrallel universe. It's actually puzzling to me, even on a song by song comparison it just doesn't add-up in my mind.

But hey, I suppose that's the beauty of it all. We all got different taste and that makes for good variety in music.

Honestly, I need to give FOTD another spin. It's been at least 10 years since I went through Maiden's discography and I remember that album feeling very bloated and dragged for me. I need to re-assess and get back!
