With ten full-lengths under their belt, all more or less acclaimed within the extreme metal community, Behemoth have nothing to prove to anyone. Throughout the band's long career any experimentation and progress from album to album was somewhat restrained and given in small, manageable doses. As a result the fans never really felt "alienated" or "betrayed". With their eleventh opus, I Loved You At Your Darkest or ILYAYD for short, Behemoth have come up with what is bound to be their most divisive release ever.

I can't wait to see what else Nergal comes up with in the future.

Me and That Man 2

Behemoth is still in the evolution process I think. ILYAYD is some kind of open book, from where are many possibilities to go further. Maybe some jazz influences next time...

What's this? This album hasn't even cracked our top 10 for 2018 yet? Come on people, it's been out for almost a week now, let those undeserved 9s and 10s fly!

I am the Magician and the Exorcist. I am the axle of the wheel, and the cube in the circle. “Come unto me” is a foolish word: for it is I that go.

It's not as hyped as The Satanist, you should listen to this, there are actually some good moments I legitimately enjoy.

Rapidly shifting power chords, block-like tremolo leads, pentatonic solos, tacky blasphemy aesthetic... this album is a disappointment.

We lost our Eden to own the world
Let it be forever know
We lost our battle to win the war

7.5 from me, more interesting than a chunk of their stuff, rounded down to 7 thanks to kiddie choir. just annoys me in general, aside from the class that covered They Might Be Giants' "Particle Man".

Good album, really enjoy some of the songs, especially God = Dog. Love the drumming and guitar work but feel the vocals and chanting are a weakness, as well as the lyrics.

Don't mind the new influences. Loved God = Dog from the beginning. But so far, im feeling abit lukewarm to the album as a whole.

Disappointed i am, i prefered brutal version of Behemoth, imo one of their weakest albums.

I never was a fan of Behemoth. But this one, as usual I gave 2 or 3 repeats and currently it has made 30 spins. A good album except for the production.

I see why people are having such a hard time with this album because it's a pretty noticeable change from their mostly consistent discography and there are almost no memorable death metal sections in this album. I've always known that I wanted a more atmospheric album from Behemoth, but now that they made one I do kind of miss the amount of awesome riffs that used to grace every other album. Wolves of Siberia and Angelvs XIII are the closest Behemoth comes to their old ways and the former is almost completely forgettable. Nothing on this album comes close to most of the earlier discography in terms of guitar work.

However, I love everything else about this album because every change they made is something I always wanted them to try. The song writing is a bit more progressive, there is a bigger focus on building the atmosphere, and I think this is the most varied Behemoth album I've heard. The most apparent thing about this album is that Nergal seems reinvigorated and as passionate as ever about his work. He's giving the vocals everything he's got and he made all of the songs divergent. The guitar work is less impressive overall, but even in the songs I don't really enjoy, the solo sections are great and make them worth listening to. The only improvement I think this album needed was one more song at the end or maybe to move Havohej Pantocrator as the last song to give it a stronger ending. That's how I'm going to listen to it from now on and I suspect it will make a big difference. The Apostasy has always been my favorite Behemoth album, but I'm definitely reconsidering that now.

Favorite songs: Havohej Pantocrator, Rom 5:8, Ecclesia Diabolica Catholica, Bartzabel, We Are The Next 1000 Years

There are some good moments but generally, I don't like what Behemoth is publishing these days. No more heavy riffs which is sad.

As a Behemoth album, this is incredibly tame and soft. It lacks the driving riffs, relentless blastbeats, and aggressive tone their audience has come to expect. But, in an almost historic change of pace, it's drowning in dissonant atmosphere that was never given any thought on previous releases. The kiddie choir is surprisingly well-utilized and contextually apt, the melodic leads and hypnotic riffing create a sense of foreboding, and the Behemoth-typical blasphemic extremity creeps in from time to time to strike a balance with their new-found style.

As a stand-alone album, it's unimpressive and unoriginal, but hits all the notes you look for in an extreme metal release, and the performance and production are top-notch, so there really isn't anything significant to complain about unless external factors are taken into consideration.

Disappointing album. As boring as "The Satanist", just more boring with slower tempo. Nergal's voice is becoming worse and worse on each album. After Evangelion Behemoth is going down to lower quality music. Sorry, but can't give it more than 3 stars.

Something's wrong with website, can't edit my post, neither can change my ratings for the album...

Something similar is happening to me. Trying to edit posts goes into infinite loading. But I'm trying it from a different device and it works. Strange. I'll see what I can do about it. In the meantime, let's keep this thread on topic. This album is not the best Behemoth album.

Agreed, on album.
