Celtic Frost - Touring Line Up

On the eve of retaking the stage next week with three low-key warm-up European shows before the Rock Hard Festival, Celtic Frost announce that they have expanded their touring line-up by adding Norwegian guitar player Anders Odden. Odden, who in the past was involved with acts such as Apoptygma Berzerk, Satyricon, Cadaver, and Mayhem, played his first session with the group on April 24, 2006, and returned to Celtic Frost's base in Zurich, Switzerland, a week ago for final dedicated tour rehearsals. He is a lifelong Celtic Frost devotee.

Celtic Frost - Back On Stage

Seminal avant-garde metal pioneers CELTIC FROST have been confirmed for next year's Wacken Open Air, set to take place August 3-5, 2006 in Wacken, Germany. The reunited band will perform a 90-minute "best of" set (including new songs) on August 4 on the "Blackstage." The festival billing is now shaping up as follows (in alphabetical order):

CELTIC FROST
CHILDREN OF BODOM
DIE APOKALYPTISCHEN REITER
EMPEROR
FINNTROLL
IN EXTREMO
NEVERMORE
SOILWORK
SUBWAY TO SALLY

As previously reported, CELTIC FROST have set "Dark Matter Manifest" as the tentative title of their first album in 13 years. The culmination of some three and a half years of songwriting and recording work, the album was largely produced by the band themselves and financed by their own production company, with additional assistance from HYPOCRISY/PAIN mastermind Peter Tägtgren during the final recording and mixing sessions at Horus Sound Studio in Hanover, Germany. Negotiations with a variety of labels are currently underway, and the album is scheduled for a release in early 2006. Original CELTIC FROST members Tom Gabriel Fischer (voice and guitars) and Martin Eric Ain (bass) are joined by Erol Unala (guitar) and Franco Sesa (drums). The band are now managed by Antje Lange for The A Label in Berlin, Germany.

Celtic Frost - The Emperor Returns

Seminal avant-garde metal pioneers Celtic Frost announce the completion of their new studio album, tentatively titled "Dark Matter Manifest", their first in 13 years and the culmination of some three and a half years of songwriting and recording work. Although the album was largely produced by the band themselves and financed by their own production company, Celtic Frost enlisted Hypocrisy/Pain mastermind Peter Tägtgren to co-produce with them the final recording and mixing sessions at Horus Sound Studio in Hanover, Germany, in August/September 2005. Negotiations with a variety of labels are currently underway, and the album is scheduled for a release in early 2006.

Having declined innumerable reunion show propositions over the years, Celtic Frost once again deemed it essential to manifest themselves creatively with a new album before embarking on the live circuit next year.

Original Celtic Frost members Tom Gabriel Fischer (voice and guitars) and Martin Eric Ain (bass) are joined by Erol Unala (guitar) and Franco Sesa (drums). The band are now managed by Antje Lange for The A Label in Berlin, Germany (info@thealabel.com). Celtic Frost - Updates On The Upcoming Album

Tom Gabriel Fischer posted the following message on his blog:

As we approach the final, very intense stretch on the path to completion of this album, there are the Celtic Frost-typical numerous and very vocal ponderings which center around assessments of music and progress, procedure, ideology, song selection, and so on. In many ways, this is as typical and important to the existence of this group as the music itself. And it is crucial in maintaining a fundamental bond to our history.

As we finalize the infrastructure around the album with regard to a variety of industry partners, our management requested that we provide further production demos to facilitate final negotiations and showcase what this project will sound like. But before sending the 20 plus CDs to Berlin, we took time out last night to consecrate every single copy by physically putting them in contact with the original cover of Hellhammer's "Triumph of Death" demo, which Martin preserves at our rehearsal studio.

For this is no less momentous to us all than the release of that demo was almost exactly 22 years ago.

Celtic Frost - Demo Song Are Finished

Tom Gabriel Fischer posted the following update on his blog:

We finished the demonstration songs yesterday. They will be used for various industry purposes. We focused entirely on heavy material, and these songs are a clear indication of what the album is going to be like, they are dark, ferocious, sometimes very unique, and very intense. The full album will be more varied, but the general direction is obvious.

All the recordings were made at our rehearsal studio, and we used live versions for most of the tracks. We spent Sunday mixing at Oakland Recording in Winterthur, Switzerland. Erol engineered, and Martin and me managed to annoy him constantly with our demands/comments/immaturities.

Almost everything came out as intended. The only song that doesn't yet work is "Os Abysmi vel Daath". This is a bitter pill to swallow, for it is one of our earliest dark songs for the new album, and we had a lot of faith in it. We will have to go back and put some very concise work into it. The song seems so simple, and yet it is very complex and has managed to defeat us every step of the way so far.

The other songs of the demo sound extremely Celtic Frost to me, in details sometimes astonishingly close to "Morbid Tales" or "To Mega Therion". "Ain Elohim" and "Temple of Depression" are perhaps my favourites among these songs. Although it is a new song, the title and some of my contributions to "Temple of Depression" go back to the original Celtic Frost of many years ago.

If all goes according to plan, Martin is going to pick up a well-known Swedish producer from the airport in just a few hours. We'll talk for a day about a possible collaboration, and he'll hear almost the entire album on Tuesday.
