Ex Deo - Update On The New Album

Ex Deo are still working on the follow-up to the debut album Romulus, scheduled for a release somewhere in 2012. The band will enter the studio later this year.

According to a press release, the second opus entitled Caligula is set to feature the most intense "epic metal soundtrack" to come out in recent history.

Mainman Maurizio Iacono (also known from Kataklysm) added: "The album will once again have the honor of some elite guest appearances. The band promises an album that will shake the metal scene!"

Artwork and layout for Caligula will be handled by classic artist Seth (Septicflesh). Some song titles include "I, Caligula", "Burned to Serve the Nocturnal Light", "In War & Conquest/Roma Caput Mundi" and "Teutoburg (The Ambush of Varus) - Part 1".

The modern day legion is set to enter JFD studios in Dallas, TX and Montreal, Canada with producer Jean-François Dagenais (Kataklysm, Malevolent Creation, Misery Index, Despised Icon) this autumn.

Ex Deo - Sign With Napalm Records

Napalm Records is very proud to announce that Ex Deo has joined its ranks.

The band revolving around Kataklysm frontman Maurizio Iacono recently returned from a highly successful North American tour, presenting metal fans with the mighty force of the Roman legion. Ex Deo, whose first full length Romulus was praised by fans and critics alike, signed a worldwide recording deal with the Austrian label. The band's second offering Caligula is tentatively scheduled for a 2011 release and is bound to shake the metal scene to its core. Nothing can withstand the power of Rome!

Maurizio Iacono: "Today I'm excited to say that we have found a new home for the Roman legion of Ex Deo! We have parted ways amicably with our long time friends at Nuclear Blast for the second album of Ex Deo, we needed to separate even more the two bands of Kataklysm and Ex Deo and we now have a new vision of soldiers behind Ex Deo and we have found this after a few months of talking to different labels with Napalm Records out of Austria, I've been dealing with them with a band I work with called Alestorm and they have done a fantastic and professional job... we look forward to releasing the anticipated second album Caligula with this new powerhouse and unleashing next year one of the most defiant albums metal has seen in ages... Roma Invicta!"

Ex Deo - Update On New Album

Ex Deo, the ancient Roman-themed arsenal led by Kataklysm frontman Maurizio Iacono, has checked in from the current stop on the Those Whom The Gods Detest Tour II in Tucson, Arizona - with label mates Nile, Tazmanian tech-death masters Psycroptic, and Norwegian extreme metallers Keep Of Kalessin - with the following message:

"It's amazing to see a vision I had one day waking up finally become a reality two years ago. We had done a few shows in America with Ensiferum for our debut album Romulus that were fantastic, but to go across the country and really seeing people waiting anxiously for this and screaming their hearts out for it live has been one incredible feeling. I feel Ex Deo is changing the game of the underground, bringing a theater to the live stage and bringing a new concept that has never done before. This is a beast of a band and we would like to thank everyone for the great support.

With this said, I would like to announce that we will indeed begin pre-production on the next album Caligula - the follow up to the highly-acclaimed debut Romulus - as soon as the world tour for Kataklysm will end next year. Expect a revolutionary album that will breathe the word 'NEW' into a much stagnant metal industry. It is yet undermined which label will release Caligula as we are looking at many different options."

Ex Deo - Forced To Cancel Some Dates On Ensiferum Tour

Ex Deo have officially pulled out of some dates on the Ensiferum tour for visa matters beyond the band's control.

Commented Maurizio Iacono (Kataklysm): "Well the Gods are definitely not smiling on us at the moment. Some confusion happened in the visa department for a couple guys in our camp and by the time it will be solved, the tour will be too far in for us to join it and financially it would be a disaster. The good news is we will be doing the last week of shows from Chicago to New York. We're planning some Ex Deo stuff next year in America at the moment. We've lots of supporters that will be disappointed if it doesn't happen so we'll try our best to make it up next year."

Ensiferum, Hypocrisy, Ex Deo, Blackguard, Swashbuckle* Tour:

11/29/09 - Logan Square Auditorium - Chicago, IL
11/30/09 - Peabody's - Cleveland, OH
12/01/09 - The Opera House - Toronto, ON - Canada*
12/02/09 - Imperial de Quebec - Quebec City, QC - Canada*
12/03/09 - Le Medley - Montreal, QC - Canada*
