Symphony X - New Album Details

Iconoclast, the new album from US progressive metal band Symphony X, will be released on June 17th in Europe and June 21th in North America through Nuclear Blast Records.

The cover artwork was created by illustrator and film concept artist Warren Flanagan (Watchmen, The Incredible Hulk, 2012). He stated: "The idea was to create imagery that was a little darker in tone to previous Symphony X albums and to represent the overall theme of Iconoclast into the artwork. The whole concept came from Mike Romeo, who had a strong idea of what the cover should represent based off the music. I just ran with it. When the album's title was decided on, I focused the image based on the meaning of it. I also wanted to use the band's signature 'masks' but present them in a way that connected to the new album."

Symphony X founder and lead guitarist Michael Romeo has the following to say about Flanagan's art: "We worked with Warren on the last CD, Paradise Lost, and have a good relationship with him. When I talk to Warren about artwork ideas, a lot of times we end up making comparisons to films and movies. With the new CD, Iconoclast, the music and lyrics have a darker mechanical/technological theme, and I remember us talking about scenes from films like The Matrix and Terminator. From there, we sent him some songtitles and lyrics (songs like "Dehumanized", "Bastards Of The Machine", "Electric Messiah") and just let Warren run with the ball. He has a great imagination and style, and he totally gets what we are trying to convey with the music."

Russell Allen also talks about the new album in this new interview.

Symphony X - Another Update From The Studio

Symphony X's webmaster has posted another studio update online. The band are still working on their upcoming album 'Paradise Lost' which is supposed to be released some time in the first half of 2007.

Here is the posting, taken from symphonyx.com:

"Spoke to MJR for a while this afternoon, and here's what he had to say...

They had planned to start the mix on the CD this week, but were delayed a bit overall by the holiday earlier this week, so mixing has been rescheduled for January. Russ has 3 songs to finish (and was on his way to The Dungeon as Mike & I spoke) & hopes to be done with his recording by the weekend, and MJR has a couple more solos that he wants to record, as well as getting some loose ends tied up and polishing things up overall. They are still aiming for a Spring '07 release, & Mike had some pretty exciting things to say about the material, saying that it has something for old fans and new fans alike, so I'm confident more than ever in saying that the CD will be well worth the wait.

So there IS light at the end of the tunnel, & the band appreciates your patience greatly; stay tuned for more info soon!"

Symphony X - Another Bad Studio Update

Well here it goes as it is said I didn't change a thing:

'It seems that this is doomed to be the 'Murphy's law' cd, where anything that could go wrong, will/has gone wrong. Due to technical problems, first with the studio computers, and then with the failure and subsequent replacement/installation of somewhat-hard-to-find parts in MJR's amps, the band's about 2 weeks behind where they'd hoped to be progress-wise at this point. This has thrown off the projected date for getting the cd out and mixed, so they've had to push back the date for that by about a month in accordance with what dates were available to them.

Currently MJR is getting his guitar parts finished, & after that Mike LePond will finish up his bass parts, and then Russ will enter the studio to work on recording the vocals. Mike asked me to extend the band's appreciation to the fans for their patience, & at this point, is anticipating a release date after the new year; I have no doubt that it will be well worth the wait.'

Symphony X - Studio Update

Progressive metal outfit, Symphony X is continuing work on 'Paradise Lost', set to be released before the end of the year. The following statement has been posted via the group's website:

"It would appear that one of the early drafts of the cd cover has been leaked to at least one website; the band hasn't had a chance to okay any final artwork, so what you see floating around out there is NOT the final cd cover art.

Jason is done recording his parts, and the rhythm tracks and other guitar parts should be done by next week. The band's aiming to have the music ready for mixing by mid September; MJR says that things are moving right along, and kept our conversation short so that he could get back to it.

More news when there's more to share..."

In other news, Symphony X was obliged to cancel many European festival appearances suit of their bassist's health.
