The wait is over! It is time to get a glimpse on a brand new Dream Theater's track called "Untethered Angel"! Listen to it now here. It sounds like it something from the Train Of Thought/Octavarium-era of the band. What do you think?
Progressive metallers Dream Theater's new album Distance Over Time is due out on February 22nd. The band will also embark on a Distance Over Time tour in 2019 which also doubles as a celebration of their 1999 classic Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory.
Tracklist:
01. Untethered Angel (6:14)
02. Paralyzed (4:17)
03. Fall Into The Light (7:04)
04. Barstool Warrior (6:43)
05. Room 137 (4:23)
06. S2N (6:21)
07. At Wit's End (9:20)
08. Out Of Reach (4:04)
09. Pale Blue Dot (8:25)
10. Viper King (4:00) (Bonus)
Just generic DT. .. lots of perfectly executed shreds and bassline. But there's no wow factor in the song. Also i'm not a fan of La Brie's vocals, which is a shame because his solo albums are really good. Hope the rest of the album will be better.
The song is pretty good. It's not overly long, instrumental wankery is at an acceptable level, and I can remember it 3 minutes after it's finished. This new album could be pretty decent if the rest of the songs is similarly good.
It's alright, has it's moments, although, on the other hand, some parts feel forgettable. It reminds me of A Dramatic Turn Of Events, which was a pretty good album, but also Octavarium and Train of Though a bit.
Reading all above posts I thought I was really bad and as a DT fan I took some time before listening.... but it's not that bad....except that old Sharp tones are missing. Still waiting for the release.

In the beginning I was made of clay. Then I bit the apple and they changed me to metal 🤘
The song is Ok, not their best, but it's not that terrible either.
But something that really bothers me is Mike Mangini's playing. It sounds really tight and uninspired. And James sounds too monotonous throughout the entire song.
It's ok but in DT standards ok means bad and in my opinion This band desperately needs Mike Portnoy back
DT standards? What does this mean anymore?
DT are happy with Mangini, I don't think a reunion with Portnoy is likely to ever happen.
I'd also be surprised DT will ever release anything as good as Awake, ToT, I &W, Scenes or Octavarium.
If the other songs on the new album will be as good as this song here, I'll be happy.

I thought the two primary purposes for the internet were cat memes and overreactions.
Pretty ok song. Solid throughout and quite enjoyable. But for me personally it's a bit too tame. It misses some of the craziness and unique energy that we are used to from Dream Theater. Others call it wankery, but for me that's what makes Dream Theater so unique.
James misses a bit of energy in this song imo. It's not that he sounds bad, just a bit less connected than I would've hoped for. Also that drum setup looks really awkward and weird to me. But hey if it works... it works, I guess.
I like the song more than basically anything from the last album. So I'm a bit more hopeful about this album.
I have never seen anyone look so un-cool behind a drumset.
Exactly my thoughts. That horrible cymbal setup makes him look like a clown. And the rest of the band looks like they are not THAT enthusiastic about their latest release. Neither am I.
That horrible cymbal setup makes him look like a clown.
Indeed, when he's hitting the cymbals it looks like he can barely reach them. Pretty ridiculous sight It also gives the impression that he's not really hitting his drums with a lot of passion or energy. Just going through the motions.
Shitty mix, specially the vocals. I did the rythm and the transitions though. Not that bad as the comments suggested and I'm not a big DT fan (I pick a few songs from every album, except for Images & Words).
Okay song but the vocals ruin the good music and riffs.
