What is the most depressing, sad song, either lyrically, instrumentally or likewise, in any genre?

Savatage - If I Go Away is probably ranked really high up there. in terms of despair and shit like that, it's definitely a really powerful song. also, Priest's Here Come The Tears is in the same bucket.

i'm not really a fan of this kinda music, but The Smiths - How Soon is Now also has some really dry and simplistic but extremely depressive lyrics.

Johnette Napolitano - Suicide Note

Easily the most depressing song I've ever heard. I would post a youtube link to the song but I'm far too lazy at the moment.

The Philosopher
Well, while it's not depressing in the conventional sense, it's still definitly something that can get you down. I dedicate this song to my friend and his hoplessly psycho gf. One day if they get married, I will personally play this for them at their wedding.

"Watching From a Distance" by Warning

This song makes me want crawl away and die in a hole within the cold, dark earth.

i know Warning doesn't fit in the "extreme atmospheric" doom category, but i always fail to see how for example Esoteric songs can be classified as depressing or shit. i actually find it relaxing.

Well, considering Esoteric is labeled as "Funeral Doom Metal" I would imagine it can be depressing and gloomy for some; funerals are that way sometimes.

I'm pretty sure that if you ask Marcel, Lucas or me, the answer will be "Esoteric isn't really depressive, just fucking monstruous and hellish.

Yeah like you say nothing depressing about their music. It is however monstrous and hellish as I once again witnessed last week live.
