I dunno, when I first started really getting into this I described it as an eerie kind of raw black metal that drew you in, like opening a closet door when all the lights are off.
The follow-up feels completely empty and doesn't do anything for me in terms of its atmosphere. I don't get the eerie vibe or the "closet in the darkness" feeling. :/

This is in no way an easy listen. It took me several listens to enjoy, but it was totally worth it. This album is very 'black metal' in essence, but it is also very original. The first thing I noticed was the intricate structure and the technicality throughout the album, but nowhere as complex as the wankery Krallice, and much more 'soulful' than them. Another strong aspect of this work is the sonic melodies and leads blazing over the background rythyms, and that FANTASTIC guitar tone. This is way too dark. It's not dark in the prospect of hell (too cheesy), it feels like an extremely fast roller coaster ride in a pitch-black cavern. It's just darkness on it's one, with some elegance and grandeur injected here and there.
My vinyl copy arrived yesterday (I got the smokey marble vinyl limited to 100 copies...) and it sounds marvelous. One of my most prized records at the moment.
I listened to this without my headphones, and at low volume, as I didn't want the neighbours to alert the authorities. I hope it explains why I don't get the hype. To me it sounded similar to a Leviathan on too much adderall. But it is good. I just really don't hear anything that I never have before. I might need a second go at this.

Not the wisest decision you could make. It is really layered and needs great attention to the details.
I personally listened to it just a few days ago for the first time. It might be the best black metal album in 5 years I think. It has everything I need.

I didn't have the headphones, they were at the shop for repair. I'm just a nice neighbour. I'm giving it a spin right now. We'll see if that changes my mind.
This with headphones with high volume at night... and one or two glasses down is just a fantastic way to end your night.
I fell asleep last night when listening to this at 4 am, and it managed to give me some creepy images. Already have tried the same thing with impetuous ritual and wormphlegm, and should do the it with some other twisted albums
