After a stale and subpar 2011, 2012 has been a bounce back year for the post metal and atmospheric sludge genres. Why the comeback? Well, the bands today are not standing pat with the "Cult of Neur-Isis" tried-and-trued formula. Instead a lot of the newer groups have jumped head first into experimentation. Daring to push the envelope, these bands are trying very hard to be that band no one sounds like. Keeping the "post" framework standard but rearranging and maneuvering outside its core, post-whatever bands are now sprinkling in a black metal passage here or a punk riff there. What's being concocted is musical genre bending that's fresh and exciting.
No prog death here whatsoever ! I haven't heard the debut EP but reading the review it seems that they sounded like Opeth while this has no Opeth at all. A true gem of an album

Aww, awesome find Innerself! This album is definetly post-metal/sludge, I would know! I like this album as well. I need a few more listens before I rate it!

I thought you might like this since it has that Post-metal element definitely an album that needs time and the beauty about it is that it keeps getting better

To be honest, I am surprised this is on the website. Hope people will take notice and give this a chance!

Yeah, me too ! I typed their name in the search field thinking I'm not gonna get any results, but there it was : a page with both albums added and a review of their debut EP (which I'll be checking to see what they sounded like before this)

Cool to see them still around, will have to check this out.
i don't recall entirely what the ep sounded like, it's been a while and i lost the music due to my pc melting earlier this year... my guess is the OPETH bit was based open their citation coupled with the basic shifts from harsh to clean to harsh and back.
This release is growing on me more & more. My new favorite post album of the year (so far). Fans that can't wait for the new CoL album and need a filler, try this.
Godammit, should I "10" this people? Help? Anyone? I don't give out "10's" like a Pez dispenser!
I actually thought about it for a moment, will not do it though. I think it's a solid 9
If things weren't so shitty here I was thinking about reviewing it ... might have some time to do it in the future and I really want to because I feel that I have a lot to say about it.

Really liked this album, especially what they did on "Samaroid"; haven't ever heard such fast and technical metal actually feeling post! At the moment, though, I feel that the mellow parts fail a bit, and the explosive parts are too extensive and chaotic. But that might change with further listens. Might bump it up to a 9.

Great album, best of 2012 for me. I cannot wait to see what these Italians have in store for us next!
I think I'm immune to bad band names after a binge of brutal death metal when I was 13. Cephalotripsy....Visceral Disgorge.....Disgorge.....Septycal Gorge.....all worse names

At least they all make sense. Here it looks like they tried to make a pun out of sun and hypocrisy. Just doesn't work and sounds unpleasant to say.
