Yeah. It's going there. Stop acting as if I'M Mrs. Bad Cop when it was YOU ALL coming through with the Bully Pulpit trying to police rather innocent info - sharing in the first place
"Can't control their own temper"? Like you flipping out over bands that *might* be NSBM but that are really just trying to express themselves artistically as is literally every other band in existence?
See, that's the reason why we can't have these kinds of discussions. There will always be people who can't control their own temper and immediately feel personally attacked.
....my language and being over - parenting in suggesting how I act, don't we? I'd suggest you step off the high horse, sir. I'm trying to be diplomatic here, if you can't tell. Don't needlessly escalate "because muh authority"
I'm not doing anything wrong by MS standards. I may not be Staff like yourself, but I am still Elite. I'm not using any slurs or deriding comments against MS policy. And you and I have prior history on trying to censor....

Sirenia has for a long time been a band that, release after release, managed to divide their fan-base into those that appreciate their releases with all its flaws, and those that mourn the long gone days of Veland's creation in Tristania and early Sirenia. The Enigma Of Life further escalated the gap between the two sides and it seemed like Sirenia had lost all of its creativity in the process. Gone were the classical days when the orchestral arrangements were not used as a gothic gimmick, gone also were the days when Morten Veland was still somehow involved in the more extreme direction of metal.
I lost faith in this band after the Enigma of poor songwriting. This time, im going to listen to the album before buying it. I do like the album name though, very original... something the last album was severely lacking.
I might have underestimated Sirenias capabilitys. The album truly souds very solid and great. It's not ?At sixes and sevens", but it is still great, and it quite different way. Lots of Latin choirs, that are in right places, and not in spite of just being there (as we heard in few previous releases). This could be a great return to a good songwriting and good music to Sirenia. Surprise.
Just listen the whole album on Youtube. It surprises me because I thought it's gonna be crap like previous releases (I only like their first two albums). Ailyn's voice still sounds annoying in some parts, but she improves a lot.
Well, I never had a thing to say about Ailyn's voice, I liked it from the beginning but I have to admit, her voice now is even better. I also listened to the whole album and it has some great moments. It's far better than their last one, slightly above The 13th Floor but not as good as the first two, it stands somewhere in between. Still, great performance, better than Tristania's new opus.
I never thought that I will love Sirenia's album for its metal aspect. But in this one the riffs and the solos are just shining. Even Ailyn's voice, which most of the time, sounds annoying for me fits quite nicely. At last, they have redeemed themselves for me after all these mediocre albums. Loving this one!
Much improved and more complex than the previous albums. Ailyn's vocals still are terribly weak though (which let the whole album down IMO), despite some new classical vocal lines, especially in the first track. Some great tracks like Seven Windows..., Cold Caress and Stille Kom Døden, but overall its ok. Around 7.5/10 for me.
After track 4 this album becomes extremely generic and formulaic. I actually prefer TEOL (which I thought was a decent album) to this, so I guess I am just in the minority.
Honestly i find this album very intresting but the only problem for me is Aillyn's vocals. Despite the fact that she has made some performance recently, her singing still sounds quite irritating for me and too poppy.
The previous album remains one of the worst and most embarrassing pieces of trash I've ever had the (dis)pleasure to listen to.
This one is obviously an improvement (actually only riff-wise), but still vapid and kitschy enough to remind me once again of the band's uselessness.
Morten you should take up knitting and keep Ailyn's boobies just for yourself.
This is a step up from The Enigma Of Life (which I did actually like). I have always liked Ailyn's voice, but she sounds amazing here. I've read that she joined a choir to get more practice, and it definitely shows here.
What struck me was that the vocals where to sharp, the synths where to pronounced (this is supposed to me metal after all!).
But the worst part is the MIXING, it sounds terrible!
Like it was recorded in a cardboard tunnel then mixed in some home-studio, the wrong instruments are at focus and there is no dynamic whatsoever - it's a MESS.
I handed it to my friend that is a professional music mixer (25 years experience) and he agrees completely, it's shit. I'm SO disappointed
I really like their new stuff. Ailyn's improved voice is perfect and Morten sings very often in this album. The choirs are used sensibly and in the right place. Completely this album is darker than the previous Enigma of life.
My best of the Perils of deep blue: Profound scars, Stille Kom Døden, Ditt Endelikt, Darkling and Chains.

Absolutely, it completely ruined an album that (here I disagree) has some pretty good tunes and riffs in my opinion. I already dislike Aylin's voice enough so that there was no need to make it even more dreadful for me with that production.
All in all, first album I slightly enjoy after "Elixir". "Ditt Endelikt" is as gayest as the album gets but boy, that's what I call a hit.

While I do like the album, I will admit the mixing has made it much louder than it needed to be. I suppose this album can used as a prime example of the negative effects of the Loudness War.

I don't think it's about loudness, actually the vocals drown beneath it's own production. Whenever you have keyboards + vocals at the same time it's like it was recorded in a tunnel as someone said above.
I just checked a couple of random songs from their previous album and you can clearly figure out what went wrong with this one.
Better than Enigma of Life, but not as good as I would like Sirenia to be. I like somehwere the same as The 13th Floor. I'm totally hooked on Ditt Endelikt, though!
---- You think darkness is your ally? You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it. Molded by it. I didn't see the light until I was a man. But it was nothing to me but blinding.

Yeah, I think the bad mixing is because of the Loudness. This album is ridiculously loud, and usually a lot of modern album wind up with really crap mixing so it can be made louder. They get compressed and clipped like mad, and I think that's what's happened here.
Here is Seven Widows Weep:

Although, whether it is down to the Loudness War or not, I do agree, the mixing is not very good.
