Twenty-twenty

I have fallen behind on my 2020 albums listening but I might as well start a list now. This is a work in progress obviously, I'll probably be adding albums this time next year. (LOL)

1. Conception - State Of Deception
a great comeback, one of the albums I listened quite a bit this year.
2. Zopp - Zopp
a very pleasant surprise, one of the best progressive rock albums I heard this year, Canterbury-prog like, they play like it's 1972
3. Rikard Sjöblom's Gungfly - Alone Together
very impressed with this, one of the best progressive rock albums I've heard this year.
4. Caligula's Horse - Rise Radiant
they played it safe, but I enjoyed this a lot.
5. Anubis Gate - Covered In Colours
never expected a covers albums to be this great.
6. Pendragon - Love Over Fear
a great come back from the prog veterans.
7. Loviatar - Lightless
a real plesant surprise, it's doom, it's post rock, it's progressive, MS review made me check it out and I'm thankful.
8. Hällas - Conundrum
prog rock with some neo-prog, 70s hard rock influences, a must listen for anyone into prog music

work in progress, I've got quite a few albums to finish listening and see how many are worth adding, I won't be adding every single 2020 album I heard. I'm sure I forgot a couple , but I'll add them sooner or later.

Are these all the albums you've listened to this year in order of preference or just the ones you actually enjoyed?

If it's not too much trouble, I believe comments would be helpful for many people.

It's only albums I enjoyed a lot, were fun to listen. So not a best to worst list,
Maybe I'll list some albums (at some point) that I listened to but did not make my list.

I'll try and listen to some more 2020 albums in the next few days, let's see what gets added. I'll mention them.

Thanks for checking my list and posting here.

You added comments; nice, I now know what I definitely need to hear. I don't often check out people's lists tbh, but I generally find that I like much of the stuff you do, which made me have a look at this one.

Most of the stuff on the list I am already familiar with, and agree with quite a few. I need to listen to I Am No Hero, the album's title track is now playing while I am writing this and I am loving it. Also, Pendragon, Airbag and Anubis Gate deserve a listen, I guess (so much music, so little time).

From the obvious choices, Conception's album is fabulous. I am pointing it out because the other two obvious choices - Paradise Lost and Psychotic Waltz - I have already reviewed so my opinion is known already. With Conception, their album has grown on me to the point of adoration. From the not-so-obvious choices I completely agree with the inclusion of Thoughts Factory, Night, Loviatar and Ivanhoe. Delain was a very nice surprise. Good debut by Freeways. Not sure about Hällas, it is not bad but I wasn't really blown away and I much preferred the debut. Also, I am shocked with the inclusion of Testament and I was extremely disappointed by the new Traveler, Vicious Rumors and Deep Purple albums (maybe because I had high hopes for them). And I refuse to listen to any more Haunt, sorry.

How can you not have Hail Spirit Noir here?

Cool list overall. Something tells me that you will add the new Black Fate when it comes out too.

I can list at least 10 more albums I need to explore, like I said, I'll update this when I find an interesting, enjoyable albums.
Hail Spirit Noir is not in the list because i haven't listened to it. Maybe I will.

I put Haunt in the list because I gave the album a couple of more listens and had fun. It did not happen with the first album though - Mind freeze.

To properly format your list you need to add "|" in between your fields, like "Band | Album | Comment" on each row. This way your list also gets linked on each album you include in it.

I'm listening to Motorpsycho now and absolutely loving it, it's brilliant. If you like Zopp, Pattern-Seeking Animals and Pendragon, I can't imagine you wouldn't love this, as I'd rank it above all of them (even Zopp, which was stellar) - if you don't want to listen to the whole 80-minute behemoth, try the NOX suite first, it's simply excellent

On my TO LISTEN list (and a couple to listen some more ) :

Pineapple Thief
Zombi
Long Distance Calling
Pure Reason Revolution
Skeletal Remains
Hum

I've only heard these from your to listen list, but I would definitely prioritize Pure Reason Revolution, I'd be amazed if it doesn't make my end-of-year top 10. Zombi and Hum were very good too, wasn't as taken with the others

I'll listen to it eventually, in fact I'm listening to some older Motorpsycho right know (early 2000s).
But what they did in the 90s does not interest me.

I've never listened to the band before this album so I have no idea how it compares to their 90s stuff, but I'm absolutely in love with this NOX suite, particularly the Night Of Pan movement

John Petrucci
Wishbone Ash

other albums I listened to

The Tangent - good one, but i've heard better from these guys, might make the list if it's a grower.
Alcatrazz - most unnecessary come back
Sacred Outcry - pretty good, the vocals kinda saved the album, making it listenable, I've heard better heavy/power.
Skeletal remains - pretty good, might make the list if it's a grower.
Neal Morse - not bad, but way too predictable.
