Entombed A.D. - LG Petrov Has Passed Away
It is with great sadness that we have to announce that Swedish death metal legend LG Petrov has passed away at the age of 49. A few months ago it was made known that he was diagnosed with cancer. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends. Rest in peace, LG. You will always be remembered.
Entombed A.D. shared the news with the following post: "We are devastated to announce that our beloved friend Lars-Göran Petrov has left us.
"Our brother, leader, vocalist, our Chief Rebel Angel went on another ride last night. It's with the deepest sadness that we have to announce that Lars-Göran Petrov has left us. He was (is!!!) an incredible friend, and a person that has touched so many people. He has changed so many lives with his voice, his music, his character and his unique personality. LG's smile is something that we will carry forever in our hearts. When asked in an interview what he would like to have written on his grave and what about his legacy, he said: 'I will never die, it will never die'. And you didn't. You will live forever in our hearts."

Shit. Entombed (with a particular fondness for Petrov's drunken hobo vocals) was one of my gateway bands into more extreme metal territory, especially Left Hand Path (first DM album I ever bought) and Wolverine Blues, both of which will be on my playlist today.

Sad day for death metal, the throat is gone. RIP L.G.! Loved his total punk attitude - at a Budapest gig he was sleeping drunk when their show started. He was woken up, throw up and then came to the stage with red eyes, smiling and the first thing was to to give me a high five!

Now that he's gone I regret that I've only seen him (a)live two or three times. But I will never forget the first time, 1992 on the Gods Of Grind tour in Düsseldorf: LG rushing the stage in the middle of the Carcass set and rejoicing like a little boy on Christmas eve, for the object of his desire - a half-full can of Diebels - was still there where he had left it. Priceless. That being said... cancer is a wanker!

I will remember him as the legendary vocalist of the first legendary death metal band I got to know. Heard the title song of LHP on a local radiostation and was hooked ever since!
