Yeah, Ott was definitely a decent player for Dallas but Roy certainly isn't a bad acquisition! I have never really kept up with the Sabres but he has seemed to have a dynamic play style which would work well with Dallas.

Well Ott's penchant for getting under the opposition's skin and his forechecking ability will immediately help the Sabres, who had too many skilled guys last year and not enough grit. Shedding their roster of Roy eliminates a pretty soft floater, albeit a very talented playmaker. Not unlike Ribeiro to be honest, although possibly less gifted in the pure scoring department and he doesn't have half the dangles in his repertoire.

Good point, the Sabres could definitely benefit from a player like Ott. I don't know whether this trade will have a drastic impact on either team, but it will be interesting to see how the season plays out. Maybe one of these teams will manage to elevate themselves to top tier status.

And I know it's the wrong league, but Joe Johnson was traded to the Brooklyn Nets. Time to buy a new jersey....

Benn might be able to make the shift but I've never imagined Morrow as a natural center. With that said, there have been some good third-line captains in history. It may not be the most orthodox way to go about it though... the only other third-line type player to wear a C currently would be Horcoff in Edmonton, and he's a terrible guy to look to in times of need.

Looks like Parise and Suter are going home to Minny. For 13 years and just under 100m each. They'll never live up to those deals.

Sure, when Howson realizes he's trading an all-star power forward and not the greatest player to ever lace 'em up.

He's done such a terrible job managing the Jackets he's trying to rebuild the entire team by trading one player.

I never said they didn't have traditions, I said they've been putting more effort into their ice hockey development program. And while a Czechoslovakian team would be stronger than the teams being separated, I don't think it's fair to say the Slovaks haven't improved over the years. In 2006 they managed to place fifth and in 2010 they almost won bronze, losing to Finland.

They also won a silver medal in this year's World Championships, which is the first time they've received a medal since 2003. I'd say the country is taking the necessary steps to become a competitive ice hockey nation.

They have two Olympic medals in ice hockey since 1920. Please don't talk about them having one of the best ice hockey teams going. I'll concede to the fact their country has made leaps and bounds in terms of competing with the likes of the superpower nations, but in no way are they a top competitor.

I won't even bother with Norway and Denmark - no offense to anyone from there. They just aren't on that top competitive level, and it doesn't look like they're going to make any significant changes in the next decade.

Only thing I know for sure is that Granlund's going to play in the AHL if the lockout happens. Selänne probably will play for his local team, Jokerit, and I'm guessing lots of other guys will return to their local teams aswell (Kiprusoff and the Koivu's to TPS and so forth)
