First off, before anyone complains, I didn't add Chuck Schuldiner because all you fuckers would vote for him. If there's one thing I've learned it's that you never put Metallica or Death in a poll. Also, I did not add Muhammed Suiçmez because if I added him, people would bitch about other technical death metal guitarists not being in the poll, and I'm going more for just regular death metal, which can still be technical. I know there's tons of great death metal guitarists that aren't in the poll, but there's only nine slots so it was hard for me to narrow things down. Oh, and by hard I mean it took me over an hour to do it (time well spent at work LOL), and I wouldn't be surprised at all if I missed someone. Also, I avoided some really underground death metal guitarists because I knew they wouldn't have a chance in this poll.

I'm voting for John Gallagher, but it was hard for me to choose between him and Terrance Hobbs. He crams in so many fucking riffs in each song and plays pretty technically at a fast pace. The fact that he plays at such a high skill level and still does vocals is also impressive.

*I couldn't fit all the bands that James Murphy played in, so I kept the two big ones.

For me it was between Azagthoth & Hobbs and I went with Trey Azagthoth. His riffs are truly unique. I think MA captures the essence of death metal the most out of the bands I've listened to. I would have picked him over Chuck too.

Suffocation's riff's and solo's are very cool, but don't quite capture the imagery that MA does when I listen to them. I think I spend more time focusing on the guitar work and what he's doing. While that's not a bad thing, when I listen to MA I get lost in imagery and the feel of the music.

Are you new to metal? That guy sweeps like a motherfucker and writes 90% of Dying Fetus' music.

No, he is undoubtedly skilled. I was just demonstrating my unfair bias against Dying Fetus.

Trey azagthoth.... he's the devil himself
a lot of modern death metal bands just modify his riffs, and sell it in different names....

James Murphy. He was the best on the list IMO. Contributing to an album such as Spiritual Healing, playing in Obituary and Testament among other bands.

Bob Vigna looks like he's having a good time; great stage presence. Immolation's music is beautiful.
Trey is a wanker. Or maybe I just don't get it. Anyone know any essential Azagthoth solos?

Tough choice maybe Karl Sanders for me, he and James Murphy anyway. But a very tallented list. And very hard to narrow down i would expect.

I picked Karl, longer consistency at this skill level. Dave Suzuki is a beast with the sweeps. Remember when Dying Fetus didn't even have any sweeping? Recent development.
