Oh, I went for the same run last month. It was fucking exhaustive, and I took at least a week to rejuvenate and find myself sane enough to play with Excel formulas again.

Thank you. I am listening to my old favorites like Agalloch and Dråpsnatt now and just letting all thoughts and emotions float freely. Based on a quick look at medical articles, it would appear that I am severely burnt out as I have nearly all the symptoms.

Does anyone else really, really dislike the current state of the internet? This place seems like one of the last bastions of a better, open internet. Most other places are just crap. I hate that I need a Facebook/Xitter account to follow my favourite bands. Take Opeth for example. There is no news on their website. You can subscribe to their newsletter but I've tried it with multiple email addresses and have never received a newsletter (funny, it's usually so easy to subscribe to unwanted newsletters, but when I actually want to receive one it's impossible). So I sometimes go to their Facebook page (without an account), but now that is not an option anymore as I get an incessant "Not Logged In" pop-up. Ugh. Same with Instagram and every other "social" media site as far as I'm aware. All closed off, walled gardens, even Reddit is heading that route.

I barely "browse" the internet anymore apart from quick searches and a few websites like this one. My smartphone has basically become a music player/clock that I sometimes use for payments and messages. Maybe it's for the better as I've taken up some hobbies that give me much more fulfillment than browsing the internet ever could, but still, I kind of miss it sometimes...

Oh yeah don't even get me started on subscription services. I don't care about football, but I'm not surprised by what you wrote and of course they're price gouging with football streaming, just like they seem to do with every other aspect of that sport.
I have similar frustrations with streaming services; I'm not paying Netflix to watch season 1 of a show and Hulu Prime Plus or whatever for season 2 and 3, only to come to the conclusion that season 2 isn't available in my country.

Edit: oh and I also used Discord once but was banned mere minutes after creating the account, most likely because I was on a Linux machine. Never touching that drivel again.

That's why Netflix went for a toss.

Hollywood is suffering horrendously with such plague as well. No wonder why there is surge in folks revisiting ol' classics films/TV shows and providing reviews on YT, social media, blogs etc. On the more positive side, WS films are not fairly doing well in the business - crashing viewership, slashing investment and incurring huge losses.

Still, there are lot of good shows/films come out every year.

Yeah that's definitely the most legitimate reason to keep it

Personally, I would place much more blame for bad or mediocre shows and movies adapted from other sources at the feet of J.J. Abrams and his bullshit mystery box storytelling philosophy than “wokeness”. Bringing together representation, diversity, and artistic integrity has not resulted in anything detrimental. In my own experience, they have actually led to the development of some of the most outstanding media in recent years. Meanwhile, the need to create numerous mysteries for viewers to speculate about online has resulted in many disappointing adaptations of shows. That philosophy also played a major role in ruining the new SW trilogy.

Perhaps this is too serious for The Pub, but I felt like saying it.
