This demo released in 2005 is already the Fourth of the Italian old-school/brutal death metal combo Exsecrator. "Vehemence Of Human Displeasure" was re-released later the same year in a split album with the Polish death metal band Soulless.

As usual, three songs and nine minutes is not really enough to get a thorough overview of what the band have to share, but for once it allows to have a good idea of their genre and capabilities. Exsecrator play a mix - rather usual nowadays - of old-school death metal and modern brutal death. The pace is mostly very fast, with intense drumming and hyper low growls, in the vein of old Nile. The mid-paced, darker and more melodic passages (above all in the intros) remind a lot of first era Morbid Angel, while the solos are clearly inspired by bands such as Pestilence.

Of course nothing in this demo reaches the level of those bands above. But it could have been good had the production been better. Seriously, the sound is lousy and doesn't allow you to hear all the subtleties that I'm convinced are hidden beneath the mud. Twenty years ago it would have been acceptable; with today's techniques, you can get a professional recording with a decent sound for nothing at all. Everybody (labels, reviewers, listeners) is now used to hearing demos with a clear production that can compete with the most famous bands so proposing such a product is not really going to help, you know?

Anyway, I'm still rating this demo a bit above average because the music is actually interesting and shows lots of potential. I really like the solos. But next time I'd like to hear something with a decent production, thanks.
