Insomnium - Confirm Album Release Dates, Euro Tour With Before The Dawn

Official press release

Finland is an evocative land. The very mention of it conjures visions of endless darkness, long, cold wintry nights and an almost oppressive bleakness. It is within this icy cauldron that the soul of Insomnium was borne.

Their music is as epic as it is melodic, as melancholic as it is majestic and as brutal as it is beautiful. To call Insomnium a Death Metal band is to do them a grave disservice. The upcoming album One For Sorrow is such an amalgamation of styles that pigeonholing them into a single category would be to rob the band of its true complexity and ignore the very essence of its sound.

Recalling art-metal titans Cult Of Luna at one turn and brutal visionaries Amon Amarth at others, One For Sorrow displays the true musical breadth of a band that has clearly come into its own on this, their debut album for Century Media. One For Sorrow will be released on October 12th in Finland, October 17th in the rest of Europe and October 18th in North America.

Guitarist Ville Friman comments on the album title: "The name One For Sorrow comes from a traditional children's nursery rhyme. There are ten different scenarios in the original rhyme; likewise there are ten different songs and stories on our album. I think One For Sorrow truly depicts what this album is all about: bereavement, grief and loss."

Right after the album's release Insomnium will tour Europe. Ville Friman comments: "We are very exited to finally do a headline tour for the first time in our career. This is a really big step for us and we will definitely bring our A-game. The new songs absolutely kill and we can't wait to play them live! It's also great to share this opportunity with two great Finnish bands Before The Dawn and MyGrain. Don't miss the fun and consider your livers warned: hangover unavoidable."

Vocalist Niilo Sevänen continues: "One For Sorrow is a truly epic album and the tour will surely be immense! We get to visit many of our favorite cities and meet the fans who have long waited for Insomnium headlining show. From London to Ljubljana we are looking forward to see you all!"

One For Sorrow European Tour 2011:

14.11 - Holland, Rotterdam - Baroeg
15.11 - UK, London - Underworld
16.11 - Belgium, Antwerpen - Trix
17.11 - Switzerland, Aarau - Kiff
18.11 - Slovenia, Ljubljana - Gala Hala
19.11 - Austria, Wien - Arena
20.11 - Czech Rep, Prague - Exit Chmelnice
21.11 - Germany, München - Feierwerk

Insomnium - New Video Online

Century Media press release

Since their first album in 2002 Insomnium developed to one of the most promising and unique Melodic Death Metal bands. In 2010 they've been honored with the Finnish Metal Award for Best Band and Best Album (Across The Dark, 2009). Shortly before their 2010 tour with Dark Tranquillity they recorded the new track "Weather The Storm" with Mikael Stanne on guest vocals and performed the song together in London on September 28th. Director Janne Tamminen filmed the show and you can watch the video here.

Niilo Sevänen (vocals/bass): "Weather the Storm music video was shot at Underworld, London last autumn when we were touring with Dark Tranquillity. The house was sold out, we had a great show and people got really crazy - so it was really a night to remember! London, we salute you! Mikael Stanne joined us on stage for this special song so huge thanks to him!"

Mikael Stanne (Dark Tranquillity, vocals): "The guys have always impressed me with their stuff so I was honored to be asked to join them on a song. This turned out to be an amazing song. Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I do."

Insomnium - Working On New Album

Finnish melodic death metal band Insomnium are currently working on the successor to Across The Dark. The band will enter the studio in April for a tentative release later this year through Century Media Records.

The band issued the following update: "The fifth Insomnium studio album is beginning to take shape. We had a 3-day training and songwriting session last week and we can now say that we have about 8 songs more or less ready. We are entering the studio in April so we should have enough time to finish everything. Some observers commented that the material sounds surprisingly ready taken that this was only the second training session for the new album...

We also had a promo shoot with the legendary photographer Stefan de Batselier who has previously worked with some small American names like Johnny Cash and Metallica. Big thanks to Stefan for a nice afternoon! Also thanks to Jussi Ratilainen who is documenting the whole process! Here are some pics taken by Jussi."

Insomnium - Sign With Century Media Records

Official press release

We are very happy to announce that we have signed a worldwide deal with the mighty Century Media Records. Throughout the spring and summer we negotiated with several attractive labels but in the end it was clear that Century Media would be our home for the years to come. Their enthusiasm, professionalism and genuine love for music made an instant impact on us. We are convinced that this alliance will lead to even greater achievements in the future and also avails us to tour outside Europe more often. And naturally it is a great honor for us to stand in the same team with the likes of Dark Tranquillity, Arch Enemy, Paradise Lost, The Haunted, Finntroll and Turisas. A new exciting chapter in the story of Insomnium has begun!

We want to thank Jens Prueter and the whole Century Media crew for putting their trust in us. We thank our manager Jukka Varmo for handling the negotiations very smoothly. We also wish to thank our previous label Candlelight Records for the decade that we spent with them. We salute you all!

Jens Prueter, Head Of A&R Century Media Europe commented: "It's great to welcome a band that has developed over the past year to one of the most exciting bands in the Metal scene. I always liked their unique mix of Finnish melancholy with Melodic Death Metal and even more so they always blew my mind seeing them live. You can feel that this is a band of brothers who haven't changed their line-up since their debut album in 2002. In case of doubt go and see them on their tour with Dark Tranquillity this Fall - you won't be disappointed! I cheer my horns up North and thank Insomnium for their trust in Century Media Records."

And last but not least - the biggest thanks goes to all our fans! We would've not got this far without you! See you on tour, dear friends!

Insomnium - New Album Details And E-Card Online

An e-card for "Across The Dark", the forthcoming album from Finnish metallers Insomnium, can be found at this location. The e-card contains audio samples of three new songs entitled "Equivalence", "Down With The Sun" and "Where The Last Wave Broke".

"Across The Dark" cover art] is scheduled for release on September 7 via Candlelight Records. The album was recorded at Fantom studio and it features guest clean vocals by Jules Näveri (Profane Omen, Enemy Of The Sun).

Candlelight Records stated: "New album "Across The Dark" shows a band that knows its strenghts but isn't afraid to evolve. Crux of the music is still melodic death metal but nuances are giving it a unique flavor. Keyboards are overwhelmingly epic and there are some stunning clean vocals by Jules Näveri. Bit of folk metal, pinch of doom, some thrashing, a whole lot of timeless melodies and progressive twists and there you have it: ingredients of the masterpiece."

Insomnium - Information About New Material

Ville Friman of the Finnish metal band Insomnium has issued the following update on the Candlelight Records website:

"We are currently rehearsing new material, which will become fourth Insomnium album at some point. At the moment, we have four songs ready and lots of semi-ready material in store just waiting to be trained and arranged properly. We have also booked Fantom studio (where 2006's 'Above the Weeping World' was made) for March 2009 and the new Insomnium album is scheduled for autumn 2009 release. We know that it is long wait but at the moment we do not have any choices if we want to guarantee the quality over quantity.

Reason for such long interval in releasing albums is mainly due to touring and difficulties in getting a proper rehearsing place."

More can also be read here at the band's official blog.
