Amorphis - Reveal Music Video

Halo, the new chef d'oeuvre from Finland's melancholic progressive metallers Amorphis will be released via Atomic Fire Records on February 11th. In advance of the record's official unveiling, today the band finally reveals a new single accompanied by a music video filmed in the Finnish snow and directed by Pekka Hara. "On The Dark Waters" is further proof of the band's undeniable talent in fusing heavy riffs with an epic and melodic chorus, and is not only part of the new album but also available as an exclusive 7'' vinyl.

Lyricist Pekka Kainulainen comments the theme of the track:
"I got the idea to reverse the direction of the Tuonela stream - Tuonela is the realm of the dead in Finnish mythology. So I started writing from the moment of death... And death was not the end, but the beginning."

I love Skyforger, and liked Under the Red Cloud and Queen of Time. I'm probably not in the mood for some Amorphis for now because both single left me pretty cold. I like this one more than "The Moon", but I'm not terribly interested in the album for now. Will still check it out, of course !

I kind of agree, they have found a sound they want to stick with instead of evolving more. However, it is a sound I quite enjoy.

The growling part seems to be more attractive than the rest of the track. Soft vocal parts are less interesting than an average pop song.

I like it what I'm hearing, very melodic and folky, and quite catchy, it sounds consistent with what they have produced in recent years, to me it's good that they are sticking to the same formula as their two previous albums, rather than moving their style on. I'm not expecting the album to be their best, but I'm expecting it to be at least on par with their last release.

Paradoxical
Amorphis is playing safe and it sounds good. I agree that this song could have done without the clean vocals.

In a recent interview the guys said that they are not really a progressive metal band, more of a melodeath band with some prog inspired moments. That really does seem to capture what they do quite well. It certainly fits this song.

I like the singing mix, after growing, calm part was cool, but not best lyrics, solid song, not best video, funny autumn day.
