Angra - Sign With Atomic Fire Records, Announce New Album

Brazilian progressive power metal legends Angra are thrilled to announce that they have officially signed a deal with Atomic Fire Records. The band will release their long-awaited 10th studio album, titled Cycles Of Pain, on November 3, 2023. Its launch will be supported by a special release show which will take place at São Paulo, Brazil's Tokio Marine Hall on the same day.

Founding member/guitarist Rafael Bittencourt said: "I'm very proud to announce that our newest album will come out on the 3rd of November, and it's going to be released and distributed by Atomic Fire Records. We're very proud to be part of the Atomic Fire Records family now. It's a special moment for us in the band.

"For me, who started the band over 30 years ago, but also for everyone in the band, we're now in the third generation which means in the era of our third singer as we have Fabio Lione on vocals. So this will be the third record of the third generation. It's our 10th studio album, so it's like keeping the legacy but also focusing on the future.

"It's very funny to have this partnership with Atomic Fire Records because the word 'Angra' also stands for a place in Brazil where an atomic reactor was built in the 70s. This nuclear power plant is basically created to originate a kind of clean energy, but it's a very powerful one which could save the world in a way, but also destroy it. It'll be a very huge explosion, and metaphorically we can say that it's going to be a very strong album and I hope to burn the world with music which can heal the soul of sad and lonely people."

Regarding the new album, the band added: "Cycles Of Pain brings different perspectives on human pain and the cycles that involve it. While pain is inevitable, it is also a part of growing and learning. By recognizing and facing these cycles, we can discover our inner strength and find a path to healing and transformation. It is an invitation to reflect on the complexities of human pain, addressing topics such as loss, disillusionment, loneliness and despair, but also bringing a message of resilience and hope.

"The combination of elements on the cover - an angel of death with bright, worn wings adorned with religious and pagan symbols, a dark forest with fire and rain, the prevalence of Brazilian elements - conveys a representation of the idea that pain is a recurring and transformative experience, encompassing spiritual and earthly aspects and encouraging us to delve into the depths of our own pain, explore its many dimensions and find strength and healing in the journey of these cycles."

I wish they could get rid of Fabio Lione, and re-hire Edu Falaschi. Or hire Daniel Heiman. And no, I'm not a big fan of the Fabio fronted version of Angra. He's great when he's together with Luca though.

Good news, I've been enjoying their proggier stuff. I actually think the cover art is pretty cool. But yeah, Fabio's melodramatic voice is more suited to Luca's ultra cheesy Latin monologues.

Is it? I believe Erick Pasqua is credited for the artwork.
There are a few references to previous album covers as well, which would be tricky I think to have the AI implement.

I ran it through 4 or 5 different AI image checkers, and they all gave a result of 99% possibility that this is an AI image. I am sure you can use any parameters you want these days, and AI will create the corresponding image. Btw, I don't actually think it is bad, but it's definitely not to my taste. I don't know who Erick Pasqua is, maybe this one?

It is obvious since Aurora that Angra will never be able to reach the heights that Matos brought them to.
Edu was great too...but Fabio....such a wrong choice.

That would be him.
Having looked through his work yesterday after researching I am more on the side of it being AI xD
What did you use specifically to check btw?

I thought so, too, but doesn't it look very AI-ish anyway?

Honestly, I don't immediately see it. It's rather generic but there isn't something about it that instantly makes me think it is AI generated.
That said, I'm definitely not saying it isn't AI generated, just that any tool to "detect" AI generated images is not accurate.

I reckon Angra are doing better with Fab in the band, the tracks from most recent albums sound very solid and mature yet they still incorporate an element of instrumental skill. I certainly prefer the progressive side of Angra

Perhaps you don't like change, it's a flaw most metalheads can't shake off. I thought Matos was more of a screaming parrot personally, Fab's voice compliments the overall sound very well, could you imagine Omni with Matos style vocals? Nah thanks mate.

Perhaps you can check Matos as a songwriter and how the band rose to fame once he started taking over most of the songwriting.
If you would like "change"...check the musical changes and progress as a band from Angels Cry (pure power metal) to Holy Land (folk power with 70s rock references to bands like Queen) to Fireworks (Heavy prog)...and all that is a period of 5 years (93-98) almost 3 decades ago.
While, everything they have done for more than a decade now is just same same same.
I can not imagine Matos doing Omni because he would never let it happen! Hahahahah jk;)
And if you wanna see metalheads not being able to handle change and getting out of their comfort zone... check people's reaction to Holy Land even these days.

I have to agree, Fábio does not fit very well in Angra style. I´ve already saw them live 2 times with Fabio Lione on vocals and i feel the exact same way. He can´t sing the old songs the wright way. It´s kind of weird. And he´s a great frontman and vocalist, but not for this band in particular.

I couldn't agree more. Fabio's great, but it's just a mismatch, so to speak. I can't believe that the members of Angra can't seem to hear/see this themselves.
