Wintersun - Announce That 'Time II' Is 100% Finished

Wintersun have just posted on their social media that the long awaited Time II is officially finished. It sounds unbelievable, but the band posted comments from the members with a promise that next week a little bit more information will be revealed about the album release plans, so stay tuned.

Wintersun said:

"This album has been the biggest challenge in my life and I'm still kinda surprised it is finally done." - Jari

“The day finally came: TIME II is done!! Couldn’t be happier!” - Jukka

"I thought this day would never arrive and when Jari sent me a message that TIME II was ready I still couldn’t understand that we were finally done after all the obstacles and challenges. I am more than happy now. Cheers!" - Kai

"Whoa, I think Jari surprised us all! I’m happy that after all these years the album is finally ready!" - Teemu

Hi guys, Jari here!
I have returned to the stage
To make some more money
Before my fans die of old age

This is my studio. Let’s take a tour!
I promise that this will be fun
You can not come, if you’re so poor
That you don’t fund me on Patreon

Give me a PC from NASA and then
Send me a billion bucks
I’ll make a record that’s 6/10
With production, that totally sucks

I accept bitcoin, transfers and cash
My sauna needs more beer and snacks
I’m not to blame if the mix sounds like trash
Our songs have like ten thousand tracks

I am a genius, haters are smelly
Being the best is simply my fate
Face of Brad Pitt, voice of Bocelli
Time II say goodbye ‘till 2028

I'm seriously tempted to do that. I would need to add a verse about how to pull off a better mix than Jari can, using nothing but Guitar Rig 6, EZDrummer, a DAW and only 32GB of RAM
The title of the song would, of course, be "Wintersauna"

Do it Metren. Cause a scene.

It will surely make for an awesome 2024 drama of the year contender, if Metren actually does it and Jari takes notice.

Actually, if Metren goes through with it, we will do our best to let Jari know

Morgan Freeman voice: "It was in this moment that Metren finally realized why the metal gods had compelled him to make music in the first place. Yes, now it all made perfect sense. All of it had lead up to this moment of triumphant nonsense, a laugh at the expense of one Jari Mäenpää. The heat was on. Would he stay in the sauna? Only Time could tell."

In this point my expectations are a bit low. It's probably going to be ok album but too much effort can cause over production. I'm certain there will be huge soundscape and good songs but perhaps not that solid of an album

March 1st? What a coincidence, that is also the release date of "Wintersauna".

Back in 2012, they said Time 2 just needed to be mixed and would be out in 2013, implying that it was almost finished. I won't believe it's finished until it's in the stores.

How about implying it was almost finished in 2006, with mixing planned for "May 2007":
https://blabbermouth.net/news/wintersun-to-mix-new-album-in-may

I believe that was the first time it was delayed. And now I feel old for remembering reading that news. I wonder if anyone who was excited back then still cares?

Unpopular opinion : the constant mockery of Jari is toxic and actually unjustified.

Jari is a musician who wanted to make his biggest, most ambitious project sound the best possible, and his hardware was not good enough at the time. He also wanted to make it himself which may have slowed the process. He was over-enthusiastic about it which lead him to announce it way too early. I fail to see how it justifies receiving an endless stream of mockery.

Yes it takes years to make an album, but it's not like Wintersun is the only band making music. Jari wants to make his albums this tedious way, that's his problem. Yes there is the crowdfunding, but people paid for it, so there was a demand, also people who didn't pay for it still were able to listen to the album on the same day, so I don't see the problem. There is also Patreon for podcasts, so they can make a living off of their passion, and if people want to pay for that, I don't see the problem.

To conclude, congrats Jari for finally finishing the album. Also judging by how good "The Way of The Fire" sounds on crappy live recordings, it's probably going to be better than Time I, so pretty good.

I remember guessing about the release date on the old Wintersun website forums and someone guessed it won't be out until 2010 and they were called a pessimist since 2010 was so far away

Considering the sheer amount of complaining Jari has done about lack of money despite the incredible financial success of Wintersun, I think his mockery is justified.

Hahaha, even being pessimistic was not nearly close to being realistic in that case.

True, and no one is ridiculing other bands who took a while on one album, because most of those weren't so self-important and out of touch about it.

They're signed to Nuclear Blast so I don't understand why they need another crowdfunding campaign. All expenses regarding the release of the album, (promotion, pressing of CDs and vinyls and merch) will be paid by the label. I can even smell the bullshit from where I'm sitting. Luckily I never listened to Wintersun so I couldn't care less. I've done my share of waiting being a Tool fan, but at least they haven't tried to scam their fans that are waiting for the next album.

If you find this toxic, I think you need to grow a thicker skin. So far in this thread there was no name calling, no threats of any kind, generally every comment so far I'd consider within the boundaries of good taste.

You're right, most of the comments are fine, some funny, not all within good taste I would say. I simply think some reactions are exaggerated, like calling Jari a scammer, when the worst he did was selling overpriced(albums)/unnecessary(podcasts) products that are not much better than the competition to consenting buyers (Jari is the Apple of metal?).

Also Jari announced that the March crowdfunding is actually only for pre-order and not crowdfunding (ie everything is finished). But for this kind of stuff, shouldn't Bandcamp be better than Indiegogo ?

Can anyone explain this:

Kai Hahto: A few weeks ago, maybe Jari sent us a message in our band chat and revealed that the album is now done. I didn’t believe it at first and had to check the calendar that it isn’t even April Fool’s day because it’s been like 16 years since I recorded my parts for it. As per https://chaoszine.net/there-wont-be-any-nightwish-shows-within-the-next-two-or-three-years-exclusive-interview-with-kai-hahto-from-nightwish-wintersun/

To me it is sounds not quite reasonable recording the drums before the rest of the music on the album, so does that means that major pats of the songs was being done back then? //cc Jari, Kai

This is how marketing, sales and business works. Jari has built a big following over the years, so that pushing his music through these channels will produce better returns. Pushing the sales via NB will yield fewer revenue, that is why you want to maximize the returns. Why you calling it a scam? Jari has a product and is free to distribute it the way he thinks is reasonable.

The band is signed to the biggest metal label out there to begin with. And being signed to a label means that the label owns the right to the music forever or until the copyright for some reason expires. So no, Jari can't do whatever he wants with his music as long as he is signed to Nuclear Blast and he can't distribute it in any way he wants either, it's up to the label. So asking for money from fans via fundraisers while being signed to the biggest metal label who has the financial capacity to commercialize the album when/if ever released is just scamming their fans.

Not sure if edited so badly, but definitely "read by the script" from the Winterusn frontman itself, which means a lot. In my opinion "everything we see and hear on the internet" is when "rumors", haters and anonymous sources spread nonsense and absurd claims.

p.s likes and dislikes ratio on that video and positive comments tells a lot.

p.s. p.s Jari if you are reading that thank you for all your great work!
