Written by Troy Killjoy on 27.03.2014 at 02:00 Why contextualize it if you think it's great? Shouldn't matter the name of the band, it's the final product that counts.
That's my point exactly. If I rated this relative to AAL's other outputs, then I would have given it a 5 or 6. I'm rating this as if it was an entity on it's own
Has some good parts in it... but overall, it's rather hard to sit all the way through. Just sounds like typical AAL to me; technically sound with a few good ideas thrown in there, but overall rather uninspired.

Sometimes you just need to roll the dice and look away.
Didn't you call this "disappointing" the other day, yet you've given it an 8, which is a bit wei... oh it's LeKiwi, never mind
An 8 is indeed a high rating for a disappointing album. Then again, in his case it really isn't seeing as nearly half of all his votes are 9's and 10's. Talk about being easily pleased.

LeKiwi has a somewhat unique voting ethos. So unique it's got his votes wiped by mods in the past...
And guess who was (partially) responsible for that.
That having said, I've seen worse... especially those people with lots of votes of which the majority are 10's.
Different but equally as bad if you ask me. If I recall correctly LeKiwi took it upon himself to be the voting adjuster of sorts and figured that giving something a superhigh score was justified if he thought the rating was lower than it deserved. Just a fancy way of being like every other vote abuser.

Indeed, but I was the one that initiated the event if I recall correctly. The funny thing was that he tried to justify it and didn't admit he was a vote abuser. Then BitterCOld got word of it and... took care of him.

You can have full credit (though Mr. Kiwi certainly put his own foot in it a bit)
Anyway, on the topic of this. Dunno what score I'll give it. Sounded good the other day but I don't really remember much.

Yet the average scores between you and him are hardly different. His is actually only 0.13 points higher than your's, though admittedly 113 "perfect" scores is far more irritating than a reasonable 23 (from you).

Yeah, I might've initiated it, but LeKiwi could've saved his votes, yet chose not to do so.
I've only heard the debut by this band and while it's good (it's on my debut albums list), I can't say this band captures my attention in any way, so I probably won't check this album out. I only visited this page because it's at #1 of the top 20 of 2014.

True, but the rating distribution is far more important than the average rating. One can have a lot of 10's and 1's and few votes in between and yet have an average rating of a 7.5, for example. If it's a bell curve-like distribution, like is true in my case, then it can't be extreme in any sense. I vote reasonably, but I still always feel like I hand out too high scores. That's why I revise my own votes once every few months and downgrade a lot of stuff.

Listened to this the other day, didn't seem like anything special to me. Sounded a lot like the debut but a little more djeneric. Weightless is still by far my favorite release of theirs (I know I'm the minority there).
I always find it hard to rate instrumental albums but I quite enjoyed this album.
I think it's better than Weightless. I still need to give this couple more spins though.
