Definitely one of the better releases of the prog rock scene so far this year. Beautiful and mature.
Also Death Room is an absolutely astounding song, and deserves special praise.
EDIT: Screwed up by saying prog "metal"

"Detailed" is the key word. The level of detail to this is phenomenal. Not a single idle note.

Just beautiful.
Wondering if you could post last Termaze's effort as a staff pick? Underrated, unknown and amazing at the same time

I think "Death Room" is pretty much a masterpiece, but as far as other songs, I don't know: maybe they need more time. After a few listens, both parts of "I've Been Walking" seem a little samey and empty (as in not much going on), and the "Wizard of Altai Mountains" is somewhat of a disjointed track. I am not even sure how much of it is the band playing and how much is a borrowed sample. I will give it more listens when I am... ready.

I think there is no such thing as Prog Metal fans, since they're usually fans of the whole Prog genre.

True. Although, there are people who call themselves "prog metal" fans when all they listen to is djent and prog ____core

I feel that "Demon" will become the new magnum opus of this band - magic, inspiring, balanced somewhere between highlighted bass, mournful piano and violin chords, oriental, acoustic sound with slight electronic elements.
The whole album is amazing progress compared to the previous, pretty average "March Of Ghosts". A really fantastic return to top form.

While Djent is prog by definition, it seems that the trend involves using that as a fulcrum to pass off pretentious wank as "intelligent".

Hmm I find it hard to believe anyone could be deterred by the songwriting of this album. The atmosphere may feel familiar and uncomplicated (and I can imagine some listeners finding the ATMOSPHERE boring), but the songwriting itself is actually very adventurous if I had to be completely honest. Motifs are being developed with a great deal of depth and are supplemented with lots of subtle instrumental choices/vocalists, however, and I suspect that's the reason people are giving this the level of acclaim it is getting. As R'Vannith mentioned, there is no idle note (or, to be more moderate, very few idle notes). Using the term "snoring" to describe the songwriting perhaps implies a certain laziness to the musicians, but it's pretty clear to me that a lot of thought went into the construction of these tracks. It's without surprises, but that certainly doesn't make the songwriting itself "snoring". It's the atmosphere that's probably of issue to you.

That being said though being djent doesn't make an album inherently bad.
Take David Maxim Micic for example. The guy actually has a REALLY creative take on djent. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-t1WX9WXQZg

Definitely, there's plenty of brilliant music under that classification.
There's hardly any Djent on DMM's latest album barring the song "Smile", but I see your point.

Personally I have no objections to the songwriting, but I can agree that Ohme's vocal-possibility are relatively limited, and it may sound sometimes monotonous. Fortunately, on the "Demon" we have much more instrumental parts and the vocals appear sporadically - this is a very good step imo. With all its beauty, this album is rather dedicated for fans of crossover prog/art/folk rock landscapes, and as far as I know you, this will not convince you rather. Anyway, it's worth to listen to it again for sure.

I tried this when it was leaked months ago, before all the hoopla. I felt the same way. I suppose I can give this another shot.

This guy's voice reminds me a lot to the second singer of Tesseract, Elliot, and that is definitely a good thing. Lovely album.
