I watched the show before I knew it was based on books but few months ago I started to read the first book (haven't had the chance to read anything besides study materials ever since) and I guess I'm glad I already knew what all characters look like. anyway, recently I spotted the other four books in a bookstore and I think I'll make an exception and buy them (I rarely buy fiction books as I just read them once and then put away, so what's the point of that?)... winter's the coolest season for reading books.

plus, if one's worrying about the language... well, um, practice makes perfect, right? reading books is one of the best ways how to improve your knowledge in any language.

Currently watching The Deuce, great TV show from the creators of The Wire. Themes are about prostitution, police corruption (like The Wire duh) and the golden era of pornography (1970-1984)

It's slow-paced (also like The Wire) but worth it.

I am halfway into the first season. Excellent stuff, just like The Wire.

I recently watched these 2 shows:

Ozark

It has everything you can expect from a Netflix show. You have a weak but smart male protagonist with a strong-willed wife working for a powerful drug cartel. You have the strong and empowered white teenage girl that is rebellious and likes to swear a lot to the point it becomes ridiculous. You have homosexual federals trying to catch them throughout the series. You have violence. You have awful sex scenes like the one between a kid and yet another empowered white woman but in this case she's a granny.

Breaking Bad and The Sopranos are the main influences. Story is interesting enough to keep you watching.

The Shield

One of the best shows ever. Masterpiece. One of the best male protagonists ever. One of the best and also one of the most sympathetic homosexual characters in a TV show ever. Shit they managed to make all characters look great. It doesn't have unnecesary swearing, they use racial slurs when it's necessary and the few sex scenes it has are short and actually cool to watch -- except for one that's bizarre but that was the intention-- . Only inferior to The Wire.

It's a cop show with balls.

The Boys season 2.

Has to be one of the smartest-written shows currently out there. The first three episodes of season 2 have been phenomenal. My favorite show ever, probably.

Top Dog
A son gets heritage, run a company, was rabbet by Södertälje thugs. But he was kidnaped. A female lawyer and gang banger comes out from slammer. He wanna be free, old ganmg said yes iof he helps find that guy. I have seen 2 episodes, 3th will come soon, but its cool, I wanna know who did it.

Unfortunately, the show went downhill after those first three episodes. Too many close calls, slightly too slowly paced storytelling, way too many situations solved in a repetitive manner for my tastes. The final episode was pretty damn good, but overall I'd give season 2 a 7.5/10. The first season was a 9.5/10.

Swedish thing 5 episodes , a guy infiltrates' to sect and well 7I can tell but then Troy need fix a spoiler paper. Weird series, I think it would be good see 8 episodes not 5, who knows maybe Corona messed filmning?

Björnstad (Bear town) a small town think, hockey team, hockey start . coach, family , problems, teenage love, made in Gällivare in winter time, good one well I like it since its made ina a north and close home.
BTW Troy he might be grown in small town, he knows hockey, I dont know much about his love life, but all I know its equally cold and amounts of snow there and here, so maybe its series about Troy

Just finished watching The Haunting Of Hill House (2018) on Netflix. It was nice to watch 10 episodes of a series and experience a satisfying ending instead of the usual cliff-hanger season finales. Overall, it was a wonderful series with solid production value/a decent budget and good directing, cinematography, lighting, etc. The camera movements in some episodes were fancy and maybe too fancy for those who pay special attention to such things. Episodes 5 and 6 were by far the best, so the show peaked in the middle of its run, but the long (and I mean very long) one-shots in those episodes became a bit distracting to me, because the acting and writing didn't quite live up to the directing/cinematography, which brings me to one of the two bigger issues I had with The Haunting Of Hill House - the acting or choice of actors.

Kid actors are usually terrible anyway, so that wasn't a big deal. However, I felt a few of the performances by the adult actors/actresses were also far from impressive. Kate Siegel's (she played Theodora) dramatic scenes, especially the one in the second to last episode, (you'll know which one I mean if you watch the series) was so poor that it came across as a scene put in there for Emmy-baiting. It didn't help that she was acting opposite Elizabeth Reaser, who's a far superior actress. I felt more compassion for her character in that scene, even though all she did was react to Theodora's monologue with a few silent glances. Another issue was Hugh Crain being portrayed by two different actors, when the show should've just gone with old-age make-up. The time difference between the two plot lines must've been around 25-30 years, but Timothy Hutton who played older Hugh barely looked older than Henry Thomas playing younger Hugh. Having two different actors for that part was just distracting, it kept taking me out of the story every time they showed older Hugh.

The second more substantial problem was how the scary moments followed the primitive formula of a brief quiet build-up followed by sudden frightening visuals accompanied by a loud noise. There were a handful of moments that broke the formula, occasions that offered more creative monster designs and featured slower, more atmospheric build-up, but not enough to keep the horror elements from feeling standard and tame. This may not be a big issue for most viewers though, as the strength of the series is the characters and the story that wraps up to a delightful conclusion. I suspect the last episode may be far too sentimental for more cynical audience members, but I'm a sucker for a tearjerker ending, so it worked for me. It is more of a family-drama than a horror story, and I think that's necessary to mention before recommending The Haunting Of Hill House, but I do recommend the series. It's just 10 episodes, and it is thoroughly worth experiencing.

Just finished watching The Haunting Of Hill House (2018) on Netflix.

I guess I should finish it. I watched the first few episodes with my wife, but she's pathologically scared of supernatural horror and wasn't sure if it was worth the nightmares. I actually read (well, listened to) Shirley Jackson's book a month ago or so, so it was a nice counterpart to it. The story and characters are of course completely different, but visually the house was very evocative of the atmosphere.

I was unimpressed by the cliché ghost effects, i.e. CGI mouth and blue face etc. Just a plain old human would have been scary enough.

Rolled into the 4th season of Man in the High Castle - no spoilers, please, is it just me or does it seem a drastic change to the writing? And not in a good way. Used to be a long slow burn building up, instead right off the bat lots of shit going off. Introduction of partially nonsensical plotlines or groups from nowhere.

Nowhere near as bad as the absolute collapse of, say, Money Heist or whatever the English title is (where even the introduction of a guy codenamed after the city I was living in at the time, rocking a Slayer shirt couldn't keep my suspension of disbelief) , but one that has made the series go from "can't wait to watch the next couple episodes tomorrow night" to "meh." I'll finish it, unlike Casa de Papel, provided it evens out, but a couple episodes in it's brought my overall rating of the show down a full MS point from a 9 to an 8.

Started watching "Surviving Death"

Was a little disappointed, the first episode was good with people telling there experience of being dead and coming back to life.
This should have been the subject of the whole series, but they quickly went through a few stories then the following episodes were about ghosts and mediums and skeptical shit.

They say there have been a lot of people brought back to life and all there experiences seem to be a similar feeling of love, knowing and colours and magical beings, deceased loved ones and so on. They could have gone a lot deeper into these people lives and interviewed a lot more survivors, scientist and skeptics.

It was interesting that one of the people was an atheist and kind of had a heavenly experience, though no one really defines it as being heaven, and there was no mention of hellish experiences.

Johan Falk, I start watch dont remember much , I like Rydells gang, Seth Rydell is bad ass musle macho modafaka. His brother Felix is pussy. Frank Wagner is copn informer, rest gang members are brainless footsolders. Secret unite in Göteborgs police what fights organize crime in own way often illigal for mainstream swedes , but I support such acts.

I have watched Dark, that famous german TV show, absolute garbage and a total waste of time. By the second episode of season 3, I stopped, looked up the ending on youtube, and realized indeed that I should have stopped watching after the first episode of season 1, I knew it was horrible, but it was recommended to me by 3 persons and I tend to want to try new things once in a while... and wanted to see where the stories goes.
A putrid Donnie Darko rip-off. Watch the excellent Donnie Darko instead.

Being complicated for complication's sake isn't a good idea, and as someone said, if you make a complicated sculpture out of excrement, it is still excrement.

Just finished watching the sixth season of Line of Duty. If anyone doesn't know it, it's a British show about corruption in the police and how some corrupt cops have connections to organized crime. I find it super exciting and unpredictable because one minute they're interogating someone, and the next they're in a high-speed chase or a shoot-out! What's also really cool is that small details in previous episodes or even previous seasons play a role later on - it all feels very cohesive as a story.

Midnight Mass on Netflix.

Earns my highest recommendation. The 2nd to last episode is the most horrified I've ever been by a show. This is true horror, not your run-of-the-mill jumpscare garbage (though they throw a few jumpscares in there, probably to keep the average viewer engaged or IDK). I was so traumatized and emotionally shaken by Midnight Mass, after the credits rolled, I had to go watch interviews with the cast as therapy.

My English may have failed me as I was attempting to explain why I loved the show... I didn’t think Midnight Mass was “scary” either, nor was it “horrifying” in the sense that it never had me cowering behind a metaphorical sofa waiting for something to frighten me. Midnight Mass was - for me, anyway - a very believable and captivating show in how it made me identify with the rational people in the series and watch in terror as the bad things happened to the characters who’d collectively surrendered their critical faculties. It’s that dread of being the only reasonable person in a room full of otherwise normal adults that have gone insane without actually being insane and having no way to reason with them that the show induced in me so well.

Midnight mass needed three more episodes of 35 soliloquy scenes between Friday Night Lights and the priest in the rec center basement. Finished it, liked chunks of it, liked some of the heady discussion, but fuck at times it just seems like the same conversations were had in back-to-back episodes.

watching the last season of Lost In Space now. Unlike most Western shows that pop up on NF now, not that tired "Man bad, woman awesome" - like the fact all five family members are capable, have strengths and flaws/issues. Biggest problem with the show is it tries too hard to ramp the tension up past 11 to 12. It's the streaming equivalent of an Uncharted game. You *know* every single thing that can go wrong will.

Bob's Burgers as well, love Bob and Louise. More of a passive background thing.
