Anthrax, one of the "Big Four of Thrash", certainly deserves their own thread here on Metalstorm forums (as they have in the past). Definetly a great band worth discussing. If you are new to the band, I recommend you listen to "Among the Living" sometime.

I've become addicted to the song "Blood" on Persistence Of Time...

And, I don't know why, but there seems to be so much hate (Or lack of recognition) for Anthrax among fellow metal heads these days... Why? They're easily my favorite thrash metal band.

Its because of their association with Public Enemy. And them recording a rap song (I'm The Man).

There is probably more to it than that. All that was done when the band was at their height... even back then they got shit for that stuff as well as *gasp* wearing shorts on stage and generally being more like the cool guys next door than some band with some bs image.

I think a good chunk of the problem is that extremely questionable moves they've made later in their career - particularly playing rotating lead vocalists and lead guitarists. Fuck, even Frankie Bello spent some time out of the band, FFS.

Basically a lack of continuity and a bunch of moves which could easily be construed as a cash-grabs - the reuniting the classic line-up while Bush and Caggliano were with the band, releasing only three studio albums since "Sound of White Noise", but releasing two lives albums and FIVE(!) comps in that time...

Even someone like me who is a long time fan dating back to '86-'87 has issues with it.

Never thought of it that way, guess there just a fucking fun band, no super serious imagery involved. Unfortunately I have a hard time with non-Belladonna material, I can't even get into Fistful Of Metal.

I wouldn't mind hearing what else Dan Spitz does though. We've already heard Scott Ian outside Anthrax, I'd really like to know what Spitz has been doing/did when he wasn't part of Anthrax.

Yes, it's rather annoying. Not to mention their new material is obviously below sub-par, though for whatever reason I found one of their newer songs "Cadillac Rock Box" to be catchy for probably the wrong reasons.

Though, I can't help but constantly replay the fast and catchy tunes they cranked out in the 80's.

And Spitz was amazing. Panic is easily my second favorite Anthrax song.

Yeah they are a fun band.

I never fully really liked Belladonna... I preferred Bush's vocal delivery, shame the band's material weakened by the time he got in. I do like hte "Greater of Two Evils" a lot... Bush doing the old stuff makes me happy.

Yeah that could be partly it, its not that I dislike Bush's vocals, it just seems the songs in general are weak I find. Never really listened to the re-recordings of the old stuff with Bush.

I wonder if the new guy can pull off the vocals decently?

Hmm, I guess I'm not used to the whole "manly" sounding voice in front of Anthrax, I'm used to the mousey sounding Joey...

Cool he sounds way better than John Bush.

New Anthrax song? Or is that Pantera? lol

Edit: Holy shit there's two more new songs. Was this already announced or something?

Vampyres
Revolution Screams Revolution Is My Name? lmao

They came up in the related videos from Bitter's link.

I'm not that impressed by the songs though.

Sounds a little too hardcore-ish for my taste. Am I insane or does the intro to the song Fight Til You Can't sound a hell of a lot like 0:38-0:57 of AIR?

Lately I have been listening to a lot more thrash than usual. I hear songs by Anthrax every now and then and I always like them. Whenever I try to buy a CD by them, I never know where to begin.

I was just wondering, where should I begin when listening to Anthrax? Which album by Anthrax could be considered their Rust in Peace or Master of Puppets?

Thanks all.

No dobt 80's only 80's because 90's Anthrax isnt like it was its modern ''shit''

try ''Fistful of Metal'' , ''Spreading the Disease'', ''Among the Living'' and lil ''State of Euphoria'' lil bit ''Persistence of Time'' after it band turns slowely to groove even 1993 and 1995 albums is good, but not thrash , after 2000 is fucked up in all ways

EDDIT: bets way buy soem bst of 80's hits complation, something like thet and there be all best thrash songs what band recordet

Or look at band profile here at MS at video section there are all videos it can help

i think 90% of Anthrax fans would point to either "Among the Living" or "Spreading the Disease" as the place to start.

both feature the band at their high point. "StD" was released before "Among" and the production is a bit more raw. some feel that that makes it the better album, others feel the slightly more polished "Among" is superior.

i love them both, and my feelings on which is better go back and forth.

Those are the best two places to start.

Among the Living and Spreading the Disease are definitely the best albums from this band. Well, the first album is pretty killer too from what I've heard.
It is a shame they had so many lineup changes, ultimately changing the band, but that's part of how a band works. Or should work at least (in terms of changing).
I saw them live a couple times with the reunited lineup, they certainly held the audience's attention. Hell they even upstaged Megadeth on the first Gigantour.

The album "Persistence of Time" is simply amazing, with an excelent sonority...
I think that the best songs are: Blood, Keep It In Family, Got The Time, H8 red, One Man Stands and Discharge...
Those are fabulous songs!

i do not like them (but dont have heard them a lot to be sure) but i said "nice" cause they had an impact in those times and this is something i respect a bit although i dont uderstand it as i find them shitty and too much UN'agrressive to be called thrash.

but they where a bit fast so people dont shoot me...

Was looking forward to hear the new album.....but now that Nelson is gone I have a bad feeling that they are going to quickly choose horrible new singer who wont have the range and aggression of Nelson.

IMO Joey and John are probably not going to come back....

Corey Taylor was never part of Anthrax, not even for two months. They did consider him for a very brief while, but it never got to materialize.

Besides old school Metallica, Anthrax is the best band in the big four. Among The Living, State of Euphoria and (my personal favorite) Persistence of Time are all gems. Singing, guitar work, the drumming, the lyrics, everything is just awesome and fuckin heavy. And come on, N.O.T. shorts, hahaha shit is hilarious!!!!! After Belladonna left Anthrax, it went down the tubes. Bush is fuckin horrible and everything he made with Anthrax is garbage. Really wish the reunion lasted longer. The one band i haven't seen yet that I WOULD KILL to see. Thank god that Dan Nelson guy left, and THANK GOD Corey Taylor had other things goin on, because if he joined the band, the end of the world would be upon us. (watch him perform Bring The Noise with Anthax at Open Air, fuckin terrible!!!! you can find it on youtube) Yes Scott, and Charlie have been, and will forever be, Anthrax, but you have to have Bello, Spitz, and Belladonna for it all to come together. Hopefully the REAL Anthrax will return soon!!! FOREVER ANTI-SOCIAL!!!!! N.O.T.!!!
