Is it me or is the concerts calendar for next october / november INSANE! I feel like I won't have a rest week, many weeks with 2 or more concerts. And no more cash obviously..
Over the past 12 months I have been listening to quite a few German Black bands, many of whom I hadn't heard of before and I must say that I have been quite impressed both with the quality and diversity of sound in the German Black scene. Bands such as Coldworld, Agrypnie, The Ruins Of Beverast, Lantlôs, Todtgelichter, Imperium Dekadenz all have quality releases to their name.
I personally think that if you like Black metal, then you should be able to find a band that appeals to you. Whether you prefer the melodic leanings of Dark Fortress or the avantgarde(and brilliant) Todtgelichter or if you prefer your Black to be a bit proggy then Nocte Obducta may be worth a listen.
In this topic you can discuss the known, big bands or bring new, interesting acts to light
After checking Nagelfar out quickly I must say it's awesome shit! I really love it and will look into it some more. I also want to mention one of my favourite german bm bands Waffenträger Lucifers (spelling might not be absolutely correct) they are fu**ing wunderbar!

Nagelfar is just brilliant. Get all their releases. Alexander von Meilenwald was their drummer and he started Ruins of Beverast as well (another one you should seriously look into) and he played with Verdunklen live.
Here's the two bands :

In the name of forests; In the name of stars; In the name of all the seas; In the name of storms... Proud sons of ancient nation; Proud sons of sacred song in the wind; Proud sons behind a mirror of ice who told... Fathers of the icy age!!
Germany, UK, France has the most impressive BM bands that I'm aware of.

Last week was the last concert of the remaining Lifelover members at the German Autumn Depression festival. And on all the forums in the internet everyone was like: "That Lifelover tribute thing was disappointing, but Fäulnis were amazing!" So I checked them out and thought I'd share it with you. Not dissimilar to Lifelover, Todtgelichter or Agrypnie. So far I like
Me likey!:) They aren't on here yet so i added them on the band suggestions list.......do the right thing folks!
Had no idea about Verdunklen ... it blew my mind off! Awesome!
Yeah they are very good, but I think Ruins Of Beverast are much better. More creative than Verdunklen. That link I posted, check that part 3:00 onwards. Epic riffs and drumming.

Love the melody at 4:10 (has bit of Edge of Sanity feeling) .... music is great, but to be honest, growl vocals dont really convince me ...

There's one or two good ones in Norway and Sweden two but in general I agree (UK black metal acts seem a bit scarse to me though could you name a few?).

I've come across some of those bands over the years but I've never (maybe unjust) been too impressed. AN is quite good though. Anyway thanks for posting the list.

Winterfylleth, Wodensthrone, Lyrinx, Fen, A Forest Of Stars. These are the ones really good. Wodensthrone and Winterfylleth especially.

Off topic .. german black metal bands are fucking great! UK so called black metal bands are mostly shit! Venom started it all but since then the lead has been done by scandinavian acts like Mayhem and Darkthrone and Belial (swe).

Pimping more German black metal (just discovered this today even though the album was released in '06):
Has a nice Gris/Burzum feel to it.
What??? I thought you might have heard of Sterbend before this
They're connected with Nyktalgia. The drummer (I think) plays for both bands. Nyktalgia is another classic German depressive band. I heard "Peisithanatos" album first and I like it very much, until I heard their previous release "Nyktalgia". Brilliant album that one. Took me a while to digest it but I did it, and loved it. Also, Niklas Kvarforth (Shining's vocalist) has the word "Cold Void" tattooed on his fingers. He said that the Nyktalgia album is a massive influence to him. Cold Void is one of the track from Nyktalgia's debut album.

I've been looking through Metal-Archives a bit more to pick up on side projects and other bands and whatnot. I wanted to see if Nyktalgia had any musicians connected to other bands and bam. Sterbend.

Drautran are pretty solid. I remember listening to them along with Helrunar when that album was first released (along with Baldr ok Íss) after seeing them both featured in Zero Tolerance magazine in some king German special section.
Hopefully this hasn't been posted yet, but I just came across a band called Thränenkind. Awesome shit.
This is brilliant. Thanks man.

Written by Savopipo on 05.12.2011 at 08:55 Necrofrost is awesome! "Blackeon Lightharvest" is a good start.
Ya I'm really digging it so far. It's got this kind of mid-'90s Burzum feel to it with a thinner production and (to my surprise) an almost orchestral feel.

I might be getting them confused with another band but I seem to remember even keyboards showing up occasionally on BL?

That might be what I'm thinking of as the "orchestral" feel. It does sound rather synth-y even with the raw production. It's a really nice mix - surprising from a band regarded as raw black metal.
