I am just starting to get more into different genres of death metal. I dont listen to regular death metal, but I really love Septicflesh the Symphonic/Atmospheric Death Metal band. Anyone know any good bands out there that are similar to them?

19.08.2011 - 15:04 Written by [user id=28526] on 19.08.2011 at 14:57 You should have been more specific then and just say that their latest isn't SDM. By that way of thinking I could have said that Agalloch is not metal back then when The White EP was released or Morbid Angel not a death metal band but just industrial metal

I should have been more specific. I meant something along the lines of The Great Mass or Communion

Lykathea Aflame is an atmospheric brutal death metal band from the Czech Republic. Spheres by Pestilence is a great technical death metal album which incorporates some symphonic elements too.

You might like The Monolith Deathcult, Hollenthon and Demonic Resurrection. The last one's stuff will probably be hard to find. You may also wish to look into Mithras... their output may be more accessible.

Maybe not 100% what you're looking for but Nocturnus - The Key could do the job. Ok, it sounds very different then Septicflesh. You can expect this from a 1990 release, not? It has a more technical approach and the vocals...no, it's not similar to SF after all. lol.

Despite it's not 100% SDM, my reference is Darkane. Intro and choirs have many symphonic aspects, and I like that..

I 2nd The monolith deathcult. Triumvirate is one of my fav. death metal releases. Look into the band Mayan. Mark Janson (Epicas gruitarist and growler) started it as a purely symphonic death metal outfit. Think more death, less simmone

19.04.2012 - 00:01 Written by poisoned1 on 19.08.2011 at 04:52 Aside from the Mainstream genre simply entiteled: Symphonic Metal, Symphonic Metal hybrids are found scattered throughout the various genres and you happened to find one of them, SepticFlesh(Sympho Extreme/Death). Aside from Fleshgod Apocalypse (which arent incredibly similar to SF) there are frankly no other Symphonic Death Metal bands. If you want more symphonic metal your gonna have to open your mind and delve into various other genres; folk, power, black etc. if your interested, heres some bands to get you started. a few of some great Extreme Sympho bands Carach Angren (Symphonic Melodic Black) Cradle Of Filth (Symphonic Gothic Black sortof music... very unique sound) Whispered (Symphonic Extreme Power) - Japanese twist, very cool. ...and some other Symphonic bands [bandTurisas][/band] (Symphonic Folk) Epica (Symphonic Metal) Rhapsody Of Fire (Epic Symphonic Power) if you want anymore suggestions I know many more Symphonic bands. SepticFlesh was one of the bands that got me looking into all these other Symphonic bands so maybe youll enjoi these bands too!
