Yeah that’s a pretty ridiculous statement. The guy just loves music ands does what he loves. Don’t see how you could listen to Terra or City or Ocean Machine and come to the conclusion that he’s trying to make a buck.
I just googled Devin Townsend. Now I wish I doesn't. Looks like a guy who put a lot of effort to make a profit out of mainstream music camouflaged as something that has depth and quality. Almost like Christian rock in South Park.
"A new opus from Inter Arma will arrive this fall via Relapse Records. The Cavern is a single-song 40+ minute EP of epic proportions.
The Cavern was originally written in 2009, but has been refined over the course of the past few years. The band were able to lay the work to tape last year during breaks from the relentless touring they did with the likes of Baroness, Russian Circles, Ulcerate and numerous others. The recording was captured with producer Mikey Allred at Dark Art Studios in Madison, TN, the same surroundings and setup that captured last year's monolithic Sky Burial LP."

Argh shut up xD
Yeah I forgot they had an album before Sky Burial. Can you blame me though? Even the vocalist was indifferent about it when I saw them at Roadburn. At the merch stand he was selling the cd and vinyl of Sky Burial and the vinyl of the debut. I remember my sis asked him about the debut and he was like "Oh yeah... It's our debut. It's quite limited. I think we only have it on vinyl. There's a code for a download but we dont have it anymore... Just go ahead and download it ilegally". xD

Maybe it's really bad then they don't publicise it. As for the debut thing I did the same for a Horn of the Rhino, referring to Weight Of Coronation as the debut, before quickly realising they had two albums before it....

But at least Horn Of The Rhino weren't called Horn Of The Rhino at the time. So, it is less stupid than Rod's booboo

Haven't listened to their earlier works, but this is a nice EP. Varied, doesn't drag on and, at times, reminds me of Neurosis' Given to the Rising (the production's similar to it as well). The artwork's really nice, too.
This is pretty good, I'm really liking the inclusion of violins and melodic riffs alongside the sludge metal sound. The vocals for me are a little weak in comparison (compared to the instrumental work which is more or less spot on), but with parts of this song reminding me of Steak Number Eight I can only say more positive than negative things.
