Excellent album, and for me on par with the band's debut. I noticed here how much more melodic the songs tend to be, particularly "Elusive Reverence" and the last two songs, which doesn't necessarily always work to the band's advantage but does add another layer of interest to the sound in general. The bass work is more audible and reminds me mostly of the tone on Opeth's "Morningrise" album (don't ask why), but this way I feel like it's a more natural instrumental performance as a result. Highlights for me would be the first two songs, and the last two, pretty much.
I found lot of flaws in and plus it's very boring. . Well, why I said that because I've heard lot of better death metal records this year (considering 2014 turn out to be very tight year). On my way finishing to second spin, I just felt it worn out completely. Peeps saying its better than the debut has completely opposite reaction from my side. I find debut better than this one.
I know it does not value the whole album, but the song "Fundamental Process" is so addictive... possibly the only tech death song I get a binge on since Gorod's Disavow Your God - ah nope I forgot about Fallujah. Still top notch.
Well they certainly carried on from where they left off from their impressive debut, keeping with the complex songstructures and outstanding guitar work, and the fretless bass works to even more effect on this album than on the debut, especially on the title track, which has some of the best bass work I've ever heard in metal! The downside is their aren't as many stand out tracks on this than on the previous album, but it's still an all round solid effort.
